Request by a friend who wanted his OC racing a mildly modified RX-7 FD. Totally grooved on this as I'm a big fan of this car.

In my opinion the Mazda RX-7 FD is the best looking car Japan has ever produced, but for some reason it's impossible to get a picture of one that captures just how pretty it is. If you've ever seen one in real life you'll know what I mean.

They go like hell too, with nearly 300 hp developed at 6000 rpm, all while weighing under 1300kg. But, they have a reputation for finicky reliability. Like its more popular sibling the Miata, it's insufficiently cooled, but this is a much bigger deal for rotary engines than normal ones. A bigger radiator is recommended. You also have to rebuild the engine every 80k kilometers or so, but this is much easier on a rotary, not much harder than changing a timing belt really. Finally it has twin turbos, which come with all their own little issues, especially in a poorly cooled car.

Essentially you have to treat them like exotic supercars, which means doing lots of work on them to keep them in good running order.

Totally worth it in my opinion.
