A commission for my friend Noratcat on deviantART. He wanted a bit of concept art for a story he's been planning, and has this to say about it:

" Got a new story idea for you all. This one involves kitsunes. And this guy up here is a part of it. This is Daikemuri (which translates to Grand Smoke I think), one of the most powerful and feared yokai lords in Japan, and the king of all kitsune. Daikemuri took the kitsune throne when he was just a child after the death of his mother. Being forced to grow up mentally at a young age, made him focus on gathering power for himself, which caused him to grow in size until he was larger than other kitsune. Over time, he took a wife and sired two children, his eldest, a daughter, and his youngest, a son. Though Daikemuri did tend to treat his family as his possessions, there were a few times he was a loving father and husband, but those traits remained hidden as his children stepped into adulthood.

However, in modern times, he learned his daughter had fallen in love with a human, and she had agreed to that human's marriage proposal. Now Daikemuri does not have a high opinion on humans, and American ones to boot. He ordered his daughter to break off the engagement, but she refused as she loved this human, and he her, even after she revealed her true status as a kitsune. Daikemuri could have forced the relationship apart, but something inside him stopped him, so instead, he disowned his daughter. So she and her human lover got married, and moved to his homeland of America. Eventually, he learned that his daughter had a child with her husband, a boy she named Yukio. And then further still that his daughter had passed away. Though he felt a twinge of sadness, he felt fury that his daughter had birthed a half breed. However, an idea struck him. This child, his grandson still had the potential of a kitsune as soon as his powers manifested during puberty. So he decided that he would purge his grandson of his human half and make him a full fledged kitsune. He would then make Yukio the next kitsune king and in a way, he would fix the dishonor (in his eyes at least) that his daughter had inflicted on their family.

Pretty much, the story is about Daikemuri's grandson Yukio. While big Dai there is the antagonist.

Now I bet some of you are wondering why does that kitsune have a cigar in his mouth? Well that isn't a cigar, and he isn't really smoking it per say. You see, each kitsune possess something called a "Hoshi no Tama" which acts as a source of their power and what they focus their power through. If the tama is destroyed it can weaken and sometimes kill the kitsune. Kitsune usually keep it in the form of a ball, but skilled kitsune fashion them into objects like jewelry. Daikemuri you see had it in the form of a Japanese pipe before, but in modern times he turned it into a cigar. Also, each kitsune has an aspect of nature that they control and manifest their powers as. Daikemuri's aspect is smoke. He produces smoke using it to ensnare, entrap, cast illusions, visions, and can even make objects and things out of it. He does "smoke" it, but it doesn't burn, and if anything he is simply practicing and breathing in his power. And in case you are wondering, in this universe, Hoshi no Tama's can only be destroyed by a powerful force.

Sounds cool to me!
