Thanks Tiff Tried something a little different with this one as I had taken an almost 2 month break from artwork. The background details are what i'm most pleased with. It all consists of a single layer and I pretty much just painted it like you would a real watercolour. Unlike the character which consists of at least 8 layers for certain areas and colours. :)

So if I got this correct this was like an animation cell.. layered on top of each other? or just drawn in stages? Either way its some awesome work!
As for the break from art, I understand whole heartily why sometimes we need to recharge. I am ready to get to take some time off soon. I really need to do things around the house... (maintenance, etc.)
((hugs))
Keep up the art, no matter how long it takes I will wait for it.

Hey Tiff. Yeah pretty much like an animation cell, most pictures I do have around 10+ layers. The painting is fully transparent, say if I paint a red circle and on another layer paint a blue one on top it'll come out purple without actually affecting the red layer. It's kind of hard to describe really. Think of it like painting with stained glass window paint on multiple sheets of glass, you stack all the sheets together to get the final image. Not all art programs work this way but I love the depth this gives me, one of the reasons I always push for shading and small details because it allows me to do stuff like that without actually spoiling the base work.
We all need a break now and then, I was just getting burned out from working so much over the holidays that I didn't have any drive to do artwork. Now things are finally getting back to normal I can start on things again. Just put some finishing touches to some ink/paper lineworks for some more art to come soon. Some of its a lot more "revealing" than my usual but hey, we all need to push our boundaries from time to time.

Nice! I use the original 1.1 version of Open Canvas, it's terribly outdated and unsupported now. I have been using it since 2003. As I have a modern PC which I built myself which runs on Windows 10, I need to run OC in compatability mode for Windows XP. It works well enough and I have come to deal with the glitches it has. I have tried a number of more modern programs but none feel quite like OC 1.1. I also don't use tablets or pressure pads, always just used a mouse, the one i'm using now is a Logitec G600. Nothing special about it, it's just a gaming mouse but it fits the size of my hands and has responsive buttons and DPI options. I could never get the hang of using a tablet, I tried one many years ago and my work suffered as a result, I don't think many artists use a mouse especially to the extent I do but hey why fix what isn't broke.
Back in the day I used to use a very outdated PC, but in recent years with having a better paying job and more stable living I have been able to maintain a very powerful up to date PC. Though to be honest when it comes to artwork you don't need something too powerful, just something that works. I think I still have my old PC from 2004 in the attic somewhere, probably still has a boat load of unfinished artwork on it too!
