“But why is she assigned to our room?” “Maybe because we’ve got four beds and we are only three?” Oliver was quick to point out. “Oh fine. So why does she have to be a girl then?” Felix followed up only to have Theo roll his eyes “I don’t think she had any say in that matter.” With a teasing laugh he added: “Looks like you are afraid of her” which made Oliver snort. “Am not!” Felix retorted with an unconvincing crack in his voice. “You haven’t even met her yet. Also eat your carrots.” Theo added with a sarcastic smirk “They are very good and healthy, you know.” while he carefully shoved aside his own ones in front of him. Felix glared at his plate and made a gaging noise “Maybe I don’t want to meet her and I hate carrots” “Mine!!” chimed in Oliver and picked up the leftovers from both plates. “Let’s see, maybe she’s already up in our room. I can go to kitchen duty afterwards.”
They set off towards wing C and sure enough there was a new name tag added to the door sign. “Leonie” read Oliver. Felix was just standing in the back arms crossed and with an anxious look on his face. “Now come on” Theolyn said and stepped in. A small Chipmunk girl sat on the bed next to Oliver’s, a few boxes beside her like she just arrived a few minutes ago. She looked devastated while she nervously tugged on her tail. As they sat down around her Felix’s demeanor changed to actual worry. After a minute he broke the uncomfortable silence “She uhmm looks like she could use a hug or two”. Leonie looked up at that. “I’m pretty sure ‘she’ can hear you” Theo deadpanned. Felix’s ears drooped a little “Sorry...” He mumbled, walked over to the bed and sat down directly besides Leonie. “So you like horses don’t you?” He said with a sigh. She looked confused then answered timidly “I’m... No, not really. I mean ponies are okay, I think.” “Any hobbies then?” Leonie bit her lip “I like to build things… you know… electronics and uhmm Volleyball maybe?” Felix was grinning now “Okay one more. Do you like carrots?” If it was possible to look even more confused, she definitely managed to do so but she also wasn’t near tears anymore “Yeah”. “You know you really seem cool, for a girl I mean” Felix said and gave the Chipmunk a little hug.
Theo and Oliver couldn’t take it anymore. Oliver burst into a giggling fit and Theo half laughing added “You are adorable”
“Am not!!” Felix and Leonie piped up in unison.
She was smiling.
