I need to do some serious underwater scenes. I even shot some videos at the aquarium in Epcot just for lighting/palette reference.

Aha, my programmer mistook it for an underwater scene at first: the trees as ocean floor, sky as water, etc. I would like to try to blend such a scene into something surreal, but I still think I need more skill with composition, elements, and painting first.

I think it's the style of the painting.  I'm not sure if I should call it impressionistic of not, but it does seem like it can be easily reinterpreted.
