This time of year for me is very happy...not only because it was around this time Aidanna found me after I fell off my own world and became a wolf cub, but also because of the Yuletide and Christmas. I'd learned that there were many traditions that paralleled both this world and the world I came from...not only Santa Claus (Claws?) but the idea of the "Elf on the Shelf."

I met up with Lhiann one day and told her while we played in the snow.

"How...unnerving." She said. "I wouldn't want to sit around on a shelf all year and spy on you."

"Yeah," I agreed. "It's pretty creepy. I think it's unnecessary...my mommy already knows Santa."

Then Lhiann's face brightened..."Wanna play elf on the shelf?"

I thought about it...and had to grin. "Sure!"

It was a tricky plan, since wolves and forest-dwelling elves had very keen senses, but a dusting of baby powder would diminish our scent in the same room mommy used for a daycare. Lhiann silently leapt atop the shelf, where I had to summon my wings and flit to a gentle landing. We kept a low profile while mommy came in with presents to stack under the tree for Christmas Eve. She might get a bit of a startle and a laugh when she finally caught sight of us...

At least until Lhiann giggled and whispered to me. "Alex...you need to make your smile look creepier."

I think mommy noticed at that point.
