"What's wrong kid? You never saw the inside of the school's meat locker before? The one hanging over there was in your class right? That's why you ran in here looking for her? Well it's too late for her now, she's going to be served for lunch today. Good thing you were born a carnivore, most of the herbivore children end up here eventually, but don't worry - you and your kind don't get served as food, you run along now and get back to class - wouldn't want your teacher worrying about where you wandered off to." -Jack the School Lunch Supervisor (conversation with a female carnivore child learning the circle of life in a grade school cafeteria, Fall 2018)

This is one of my favorite expressions on a character. It's not so much a face of outright fear so much as it is of confusion such as would be expected when a child sees something brutal for the first time that robs them of their innocents. The face she makes is when you are a kid happily playing in a playground one moment only to see for the first time a group of teenagers stomping a mother duck and her chicks to death for fun. Not knowing that such a thing could ever happen nor being able to fathom why anyone would do such a thing in what you believed up until that moment to be a perfect world. It is the face of confusion that comes before the realization that the teenagers are now looking at you and you don't know if you are about to become their next victim or if they will just pat you on the head call you cute and walk away.

I like how eloquently you explained the expression, and now that I look at it again, yeah it does seem like that was a probable scenario for her to make that face. Teenagers are bad they used to bully me a lot. I have since written pieces where innocence is a byproduct of denial by adults of a child's capacity to understand the long term consequences of their actions. For example it's not that a teen doesn't know it's bad to crush a defenseless creature's life or pick on a child. They don't care and are at a point in life where they've all but dropped any morality in favor of a Nihilistic world view in which absolutely nothing matters. That life has no meaning. Those same people who think children are innocent and oblivious to the long term consequences of their actions also think people don't think about sex or are capable of arousal until they turn 18. It's all bullocks and a byproduct of concepts dating back to Antiquity, when women were thought to be innocent like children in terms of what they could comprehend and do. This being said, I wonder if they had age of consent back then or if people were living such short lives that 6 years was equivalent to 26 now.

Considering nearly a quarter of the world's population expressly believes in the values of a religion founded 1,400 year ago by a man who married 11 women, including one that was 6 years old, -- to your question I would say the latter.

Indeed, either that or a quarter of the world's population is secretly or not ok with the idea of pedophilia. I hope however it was merely a people died at 25-30 issue.
