Yeah, I see it in part of how it's taught in school as they have too tone it down (and worse heroic/romantic), I'd leave it for an older subject and be R-rated. They always make people like Charles Upham or Aude Murphy as these romantic heroes but when it came down too it they got pretty messed up and the former is the type you see a picture of if you looked up "Byronic Hero" in a dictionary.
I meet a WW2 pilot (dead now) who inspired Star Wars (Death Star attack) and the last thing I did was hero worship or place on a pedestal and he (and others) really seemed too appreciate it.
