A fire burns throughout the halls
Turning home to ash,
And there we sit and stare and stall
For the flames to finally pass.
A day, a month, a year and still
The flames are burning hot,
Trying to avoid thinking about
How the fire was wrought.
It’s hard for us to find a breath
As smoke fills the air,
While we think of perfect worlds
Were the fire, isn’t there.
We say we don’t know what happened
They say we are a lair,
And all the while we never ask
What gives fuel to the fire?
They put a cage over our head
And even as we cried,
Convinced that we would always sin
Until the day we died.
We thought the fire would stop that day
But always we will burn,
Because we’ll always be that monster
And for that we can’t atone.
With fire inside our flesh
Nowhere can we find shelter,
But I will spend the rest of my life
Trying to make things better.
The fire will continue to burn
It’s something we can stop,
But I know I’m the person
That the fire wrought.
