Prologue

The alarms blared loudly in Judy's ear as she tried to help the injured fox into the escape pod.  She could barely hear herself as she tried to speak reassuringly to the passenger to climb down the ladder.  He weakly tried to follow her incoherent instruction only to lose his grip and fall the short distance to the pods floor.  Quickly she jumped in as well and helped him back to his feet.

"Attention. Hull failure imminent.  All personnel abandon ship."

It took quite abit of strength to wrestle the vulpine into the seat in his injured state.  Blood from his head wound already spattered onto her fur as the safty bar dropped across his chest locking him to his seat.  Judy quickly took the seat directly across and stabbed the luanch button.

"Launching in 3... 2... 1... Test Complete."

"SWEET CHEESE AND CRACKERS!"

---

"Judith Hopps?"

Judy looked up from the pad she was reading an article about the latest issues from the Houndgolian corporation and Alterra expansion efforts to the hippo litterally towering over her.

"Judith Laverne Hopps?"

With a frown, Judy watched as the hippo secretary looked around the small room but not under her nose.  Biting her lip as the secretary once again called her name again, she dropped the pad onto the side table loudly.

"That would be me..."

The secretary literally jumped enough that there was a small vibration in the chair.  With a quick look at her data pad and then back at Judy.  Apparently taken aback of words she gestured to the main office door and smiled as best she could for the faux pas.  Smoldering her disappointment in recieving an apology Judy quickly followed behind and strod to the door that opened ahead of her.

---

Judy slammed her fist down on her seat release so forcibly she felt it give a little.  She had been so caught off guard with the events she had not disabled the maintance mode it was in.

'Who the hell would put in such a design flaw', she thought as she ran back to the control panels shoving past other fleeing mammels running to pods that were still there.

She got to the control panel as another explosion sounded across the Aurora's hull.  The ship lurched in such away that her cheek hit the panel then the deck.

"Attention. Hull failure imminent.  All personnel abandon ship."

Finding her feet, she quickly punched in her code and reenabled the life pods systems.  If she was luck the reboot will be done as she gets through the hatch.  Judy heard an alarm for a bulkhead door begin to sound, already it began to close as she took off back to the life pod.  With a quick twist of her body she slipped through as the door closed.

---

Nicholas smiled once the door had finished closing and walked forward offering his hand.

"Emissary Khasar!  Welcome to the Alterra Corporation, I hope your trip was enjoyable from Houndgolia?  Is there anything I could get you?  A drink per..."

"Nick... Let his Eminence have a moment to take a seat before you go gaga over him."

Nick smiled and took a step back with a slight bow and gesture towards his boss's desk.  He kept his breathing even and smiled politely as the entourage took places around the desk with the Emissary taking the seat directly in front of the Artic Shrew who rose up from his chair speaking directly to the canine representing Alterra's competitor.

"Welcome to Alterra Mr. Khasar.  I hope things were no to rough on you?  So what can Alterra do for you this day."

---

"Attention. Hull failure imminent.  All personnel abandon ship."

Judy slid down the later and took her seat in a record fashion, once again stabbing the launch controls.

"Launching in 3... 2... 1..."

Her body slammed into the harness as the pod blasted away from her berth.  Judy looked up through the porthole in the roof hatch and gasped in horror at the extensive surface damage to the ships body, a knarled mess from whatever was shooting them.  A sudden blinding beam made her squint but was the final instance the ship need to explode.  And with it her hopes and dreams...

---

"It is quite quaint," The lion spoke as he flipped through another page of her work history, "You want to work on the Aurora.  But she still has a great deal of work to go through to be truely space worthy and the Third Engineer we have will certainly be back well before then."

"Mr. Lionheart, understand it is an oppurtunity of a life time.  My track record speaks for itself... would it be possible to even be considered as a replacement if something unfortunate were to happen to your man?"

The harty laugh from Leo, kind of made Judy shiver a little.  Not from the jovial tone but of a potential mokingness to it.

"Ms. Hopps, please call me Leo.  I am not one of those higher up that expect proper addressing, I am just an HR person doing a job."

"What I can tell Ms. Hopps is that were something to come up I would definately consider you for the posting but again time is not on your side..."

---

The shockwave began to violently shake the pod.  Judy clutched her chest harness tightly as she felt her world around her sway drastically.  There was another violent hit that broke the fire extinguishers mooring.  It clattered about before breaking another panel from the wall across from her.  Bouncing across the deck Judy held a paw up to defend before a sudden shift in the pods fall sent it careening off the wall near the slumped over fox and flew towards her.  Darkness took her before she could react...

---

Nick stood silently near Mr. Big's desk as the shrew regarded the Emissary's request.  After hearing it aloud, he wanted to laugh at the mere thought it could be honored by Alterra with the rival sitting in the office.

"I understand what you are asking of us but, we can not even aid you with the current state of the Aurora.  Still safty systems to get in place and checked before we can even begin the load of the Phasegate pieces."

The fox watched as the canine tenced up, mulling over how he wasted his time.  But his boss was right, so much to do for the Aurora before it could begin its 6 year journey around a strongly controlled Houngolian sector.  Take a miracle to even get to this planet that has never really been explored in a decent amount of time.  Suddenly one of the women in the Emissary's entourage knelt at his hip and whispered into his ear.

Despite how good his hearing was he barely caught any coherten words that were said.  When the Emissary smiled brightly did Nick furrow his brow in concern.

"Mr. Big, what if we were able to give you passage directly through that sector... would it be viable oppurtunity for you to consider the request?"

Rarely has Nick ever seen Mr. Big light up, and this was a very rare moment as he watch his boss answer.

"Why it would cut out nearly 4 and a half years from the trip... but how would that be possible to get such a pass through Houndgolian space?"

"I would like to book passage on your ship to take a vacation, as a Emissary for Houndgolian intrests you would be getting the luxury of giving me a ride to where I see fit."

Mr. Big scratched at his chin, "Alright... I see what I can do... Mr. Wilde here will be your liaison aboard the ship.  He owes me a favor."

Nick swallowed slightly before giving a slight nod of his head.

"More than happy to be of service."

---

'How can my head hurt so much... Why is it so damn hot?'

Nick opened his eye and started to cough from the smoke that was starting to fill the escape pod.  He turned to his right only to see the flames licking at the wall near him.  Punching at the seats release controls he shout at the rabbit slumped in the seat across from him.

"HEY! YOU! CARROTS! WAKE UP AND GET ME OUT OF THIS!"

The rabbit stirred and began to cough herself, horror sprang to her face as she too pounded at the chair controls before it finally relented for her.  She rushed to him and yanked at his harness to no avail.  Fluids pooled across the floor towards her as she stepped back raising her hand towards the flames.

"DO SOMETHING FLUFF!  I DON'T WANT TO DIE IN THIS THING!"

She glared angerily at him before lunge towards the fire and scooping up the fire extinguisher.  Nick stabbed at the control button...

---

Judy frowned as Leo gave her a pat on the shoulder.  She worked so hard to get a chance like this and now it was falling apart.

"Look Judy, I promise you if something comes up you will be the first to know..."

BING

"One moment Ms. Hopps I need to check this message."

With a sigh Judy slipped from the chair to the floor and began to walk towards the door.

"Ms. Hopps... I think I may need a replaceent after all looks like your in luck... Welcome to the Alterra Corporation... I have my secretary give you the information your going to need."

---

Judy smiled as the last of the flames sputtered out from the extinguisher solution.  Coughing she went back to the vulpine trapped in his seat only to sudden have the harness fly up and dump the unprepared fox on top of her.

"Hey... Get off."

"For a rabbit your quite comfortable... but sure I'll move."

With a deep breath the fox stood and strode over to his seat and sat down.

"SO Carrots... what do we do now?"

She looked at him scowling before speaking,"The names Judy and you are?"

"Wilde, Nicholas Wilde."

"Well," Judy sighed, "I guess we survive till we get rescued..."

Judy walked over to her seat and slipped the PDA stored under it out and turned it on tapping it a couple times to try and speed it up...
