I think the brazen bull is always the first thing that pops in my head when I hear of ancient torture devices. It was supposedly a hollow bronze sculpture in which people were locked inside and burned alive; their cries of agony turned into the bellowing of a bull by an acoustic apparatus in the head. It's up for debate today on whether or not the device actually existed. Still, it always scared me to think about.
