The studio slowly quietened again as Dai’s zero hour rapidly approached. The enthused presenter turning back to address him, still chuckling at his last remark.
“Now Dai… You go around the arcades every week, beating every single arcade high score set by this young man! You hog all the best machines to yourself and claim you’re impossible to beat; but guess what?! He’s got you beat now and it’s about time you got taken down a peg on the scoreboard!”
Dai took a deep breath, he knew what was to come. He mouthed the words silently to himself as it was said aloud. This time for him…
“Pull that lever and get your own back!!!”
It didn’t take the child a moment to throw the lever in front of him with reckless abandon. A potent jolt of adrenaline surged through Dai’s system as the lever reached the end of its swing, and a look of abject shock forced itself onto his face as his eyes opened wide.
He looked instinctively up just in time to receive a full face of a bright, messy, imperfect column of bright magenta gunge that splashed and flopped forcefully into his face and directly onto his front and lap. His ears and hair were dripping with thick dregs as they flattened with the weight of the heavy downpour. The assault from above hadn’t even finished when Dai felt the seat below him give way, jolting him forwards as he flailed his arms out to try and save himself, much like he’d tripped over a stray paving stone.
He cannonballed forwards, letting out a surprised cry; the motion sending him straight through the column of goo that coated and slicked the rest of his grey fur and T-Shirt, before he disappeared into the mire below with a thick plop. The splash sent a sudden wave through the pool as the bright colours lapped the edges, splashing out leaving thick splodges on the studio floor in front…
Tut tut Dai... This is what winning against little kids will get you! Looks like one hell of a splash though... I wonder if the worst is over yet?
