Don't think so, but I can see how people might assume that.

Pony fact of the day - It has never been shown or commented-on whether the three species of Pony can interbreed, or how their children might end up. Meaning, we don't know if Pegasi can mate with Unicorns or Earth Ponies, and if they can, what is the likelihood of the child ending up as either parent's species. Fan-fics and pics not with standing, never has a pony family been seen as mixed-species. Unicorns have unicorns, earth ponies have earth ponies, etc.

It is a good point, Basically They all are ponies, base of specie, yeah, Pegasi, unicorn etc, seem to be special modifications of each class' dna (or something like that)

If trying to interbreed a kind with another it may result, on the new pony to have wings or even a horn, however these may not be functional at all, wings may move and react, but not strong enough to fly, and unicorns' magic could be drastically limited, of course all of this its just theories

It could explain why Scootalo cant fly? though she may be just too young for it yet

Scoot's simply too young - that's my belief on why she can't fly.

My theory is that Celestia and Luna come from a truly special breed - their royalty being that they are direct descendants of the original Equestrian pony which has unicorn and pegasi genes. Straight Unicorns and Pegasi would thus be a lesser-descendant, with Earth Ponies being the furthest-removed (peasant class) from the royalty. Breeding would become a loosing game against purity, meaning that unicorns breeding with unicorns would have a slim chance of creating an earth pony, but high odds on getting another unicorn. Ditto for pegasus-on-pegasus. But pegasi breeding with an earth pony is an almost certainty of getting another earth pony, and only a very slim chance of getting a pegasus child - again, ditto for unicorn-on-earthpony. Lastly, pegasi breeding with unicorns would be a slim chance of getting either a pegasi or unicorn, with almost certainty of getting just an earth pony, and only the most infinitesimal chance of getting a "royal".

That's my beliefs at least...

Oh, and that means Celestia's "nephew" prince Blueblood is also far less royal than Tia and Luna, having no wings.
