Neat. In don't really know yet whats the optimal role of heavily armed deer in a battle, but they sure inspire awe in the opposing forces intel scouts ;)
I guess using deer as scouts would be useful, but then that amount of armor would be counterproductive, as it ruins the camouflage. So there must be a secondary role beyond the scouting.
Could be transport? But I see no transport bags.
Maybe they are walking field rations. In a war of attrition, it might be necessary to keep them heavily guarded. But it would need a lot of dedication and patriotism from these deer to tag along through the hardship of war only to feed their own troops in the end.
I could also see them in a melee role, as independent armored units. More nimble and swift than cavalry, especially in foresty and difficult terrain, yet devastating against light infantry if they use their antlers and simply plow through the lines. Wouldn't work with heavy infantry or any armored units though.
I would probably try to sent them stealthily around the enemy lines to wreak havoc on enemy artillery, archers and other support units.
And in case of a siege situation facing heavily armored troops. Well... I guess then its back to kitchen duty.

heheh, I can't say I spent much time considering their role or the practicality of putting armor on a deer, but it did seem like they could make a charge with their antlers.

A: Wanna come deer hunting? B: Sure. lemme get my stuff. A: Whats that supposed to be? B: That's my deer rifle? A: Are you crazy? That's not even armor piercing. Where's your RPG? Here, take my grenade launcher. Johnny is coming too with his old Sherman tank. You can sit on the back and fire the .50 cal. Watch out above! Sam went hunting with his buddies last month and only barely made it back alive alone. Said the deer have an airforce now and they got dozed with napalm from them deer dive bombers. B: Damn, really? I can remember as a little boy, we went hunting with bow and arrows. A: Yeah. Well, time to grow up. Its a war out there.
