A MOUSE IN THE CAT FAMILY
Part 1: Danny's New Home
By Mister Ebony

Adoption can be a very unusual thing. Especially once the days of humanity ended. When furs started to take up the practice of adoption, at first it went very well.

Then, it got wierd. Fur families became mixed breeds, preds lived with prey and vice versa. Some families were, as a result, quite comical.

One of the best known of these families was the family of Edwardo Dangral Calico. Call him Eddie, everybody does. Even his wife, Sandra, and even his 15 year old daughter, Zoey. They were quite the family, especially since Sandra worked at the best place a pred would want to work. She was a chef at a local resturaunt, specilizing in the preparation and reformation of cubs. Naturally, she had many perks, and her mouse dishes were world renown.

Oh, I forgot a family member! Forgive me, I keep forgetting they adopted a new addition to the family. He is cute, 7, and has grey fur, with big ears and a cute tail.

Oh, did I mention he's a mouse?

His original name was Danny Dunvar, and his story is MOST unusual. Now, you may be wondering, how did a mouse wind up in a family of cats? Well, that is the story. It started about four months ago, at an orphanage. Seemed innocent enough for a start, but just wait and see what unfolds...

PART 1: Silent as the Grave

Now, remmeber that Danny is an orphan. He was brought here after the death of his mother, and the arrest of his father. I had a part in that I am afriad, I was on the jury. I won't give many details, I think you have an idea what happened, the poor thing...

I'm drifting off, where was I? Oh yeah, the orphanage.

Since the arrest, Danny had not spoken a word. He woke, ate, sat, bathed, and slept. That was it for him. He made no friends, and he never tried to be open. Now the other children could have been mean as a result, but they all knew what had happened, and they all wanted just to help. But Danny stayed by himself. His only friend, ironically enough, was a stuffed cat he called Button. More on it later.

At the time our story begins, he had been in the orphanage for 2 years. In that time, he had remained silent and alone. Only Button heard the words Danny said in the darkness, and, even if it could talk, Danny would no doubt not be listening. He was a child who seemed to lost all hope and happiness.

So it was ironic that Eddie, or Mr. Calico if you prefer that, stopped in to adopt a little brother for his own child. One he could train and love like a son. Mrs. Calico was with him thankfully, as you shall no doubt see. When they stepped in, they were greeted by two cute little racoon kids, twins too I might add.

"Hello little ones. Can you tell me where the owner is?" Mr. Calico asked. They giggled and pointed to the office. The two cats walked in and sat down.

I suppose I better tell you about them, hmm? Well, of course they are cat fursons, and calicos both, with orange and black and white all over. The difference was their faces. While Mrs. Calico had a white face with a little black to it, Mr. Calico had a truly dark face. Both had green eyes, and long, well-combed tails. But their outfits were what stood out, and clearly marked their status. The male was in a buisness suit, black, with a black tie. Mrs. Calico was in a nice white dress. Pretty couple, hmm? Well, in any case, they told about their situation, and what kind of child they would want.

But on hearing that, the owner sighed, he himself a large rabbit in a blue suit. "Mr. Calico... I think I better explain. Many of our children are happy where they are, and those that are not are usually girls. A boy feline is especially rare. You are welcome to look around, but I do not think you will find what you are looking for."

"We can try." Mrs. Calico said, the male feline nodding in agreement. They were given a tour of the orphanage, including game rooms and sleeping quarters. Of course, there were no rooms for cub cooking, so I was not a common visitor, but the place was certainly clean and the kids happy. Moreover, everything seemed to be like a house of bliss.

Then they got to the sleeping quarters, where a mouse clothed in a white shirt and blue shorts sat alone at the far end of the room, holding a stuffed calico doll. Yup, it was Danny. Now, They would have moved on right then and there, had not Mrs. Calico noticed the boy. She saw how sad he was, and how alone. Noiw, no offense to the male furs, but men don't notice feelings like women do. So, when Mrs. Calico saw the boy, she walked on over.

Danny was sitting there, looking out the window, tear in his eye, clutching that doll like it was the world. Mrs. Calico looked to the owner.

"Sir... may I stay and talk to... to..."

"That's Danny Mrs. Calico. Danny Dunavar. He is very silent, and has been since he arrived, poor thing." He sighed. "But if you want to stay with him, please be my guest." He led Mr. Calico on, looking about, as Mrs. Calico stared at the boy.

It was quiet in there for sometime, before she spoke.

"I like your little plushie there." She said. "Reminjds me of one I used to have."

The boy was silent, and stared foraward still.

"Mine was named Tabby. She was my best friend, until I had to sell her because I was'too old.'" She smiled, but still nothing from the boy. "I'm Mrs. Sandra Calico."

At that, he turned. He looked at her, and tilted his head. "You're taller than on TV."

She smiled some at that. "So, you heard of me? How?"

Danny held the plushie tight. "I saw your ad on TV. You cook cubs." He turned away. of all things he would know THAT, she thought. But, she was determined.

"Yes... yes I do... but I always reform them afterward." she said. "Besides, I still love when they visit." She looked out the window. All was silent for a moment, then he turned.

"Mine is called Button." He said.

Let me tell you, that was how it all started I'll bet. That conversation in the sleeping area probably starting the whole thing. And good thing too, as it made Danny smile hearing her talk about Tabby and her work. By the time it was over, Mrs. Calico had ideas in her head.

And when a women gets an idea, She RARELY changes her mind.

Chapter 2: "But... he is a MOUSE!"

Mrs. Calico and Mr. Calico returned to the office. THe owner smiled some and sat as well, a grin on his face. He was pleased at how nice these people were.

"So, have you two found a suitable child?"

Mrs. Calico nodded, though Mr. Calico clearly had a distressed look. On hearing her answer, the owner knew why. "Sir," she said, "We would like to adopt Danny Dunavar."

The owner heard it and was in shock. "WHAT?!" He said. "But... he is a MOUSE! You are CATS! Last I checked, cats eat mice, not to mention all sorts of other prey fursons.

Mrs. Calico sighed. "Yes, but Danny... Danny is different. See, I can relate to him, and so can Mr. Calico. Sir, the child smiled as we talked, like a son would smile at his mother."

Mr. Calico sighed and nodded. "Much as I wuld hate to admit it, my wife is right." He looked at her as though she had given away a terrible secret. "Besides, unless I am mistaking, he IS available for adoption."

THe owner nodded slowly. "Well... yeah... but still... what if you..."

"Oh we plan on that sir." Mrs. Calico chimed in, and Mr. Calico gave a look of Oh-God-Now-My-Wife-Is-Going-To-Embarass-Us-AGAIN. "You see sir, I am a chef over at The Gingerbread Oven. I thin kyou know it sir."

The owner stood up. "WHAT?! A... a... CUB COOKER?!" He sputtered for over a minute, before finally sitting own, wiping his brow. But before he could say a word, she continued."I'm well praticed in reformation sir," she said, "and reform any cub I cook. It makes it all much more furmane and fun, if you ask me."

"But still, the law to eat cubs has only recently been passed!" The owner said. "Granted, I'll take the offer, but I have a duty to the well being of the children here. I don't want them adopted by seemingly good families, only to find them the main course at Thanksgiving. I'm STILL working out the last time that happened!"

The two felines chuckled at that one, wondering about how that might look. Laugh if you want, it's ok, it really was funny...

Oh yeah, this is their story, not mine. Heh heh...

In any case, The owner sighed. "Listen, if you are REALLY set on adopting an orphan, there are other establishments which may have feline sons for you. But Danny, being a mouse..."

Mrs. Calico stood up. "Sir... I know the deck is stacked against us, with us being cats, me a cub cooker, and with a questionable job. But I assure you, Danny will be welcome in our home."

Mr. Calico agreed. "Indeed. Mouse or not, it does not matter. I will love him all the same, and be a good father to him."

The owner sighed. He knew this was not easy, but not totally unusual either. He sighed and gave up the fight, reaching for the intercom. "Will Danny Dunavar please come to the main office please?"

A minute later, he was there, lookng at the cats, and smiling a little. THe owner sighed. "I'll make you a deal. You may try this for three months Danny, living with the Calico's. If, when those three months are over, you return and decide to stay with them, then it will be made permenant. Is that fair?"

Now you must remember that Danny has been silent and sad for most of his time at the orphanage, except when someone was trying to relate to him. Even then, it was only a small smile. Danny was hopeful of something about all this. But what? In any case, he, of course, nodded in agreement.

The adoption, at least for the moment, was finalized. The case would be reexamined in three months. A lot could happen in that stretch of time, as you will see.

As we all saw.

CHAPTER 3: Sister Mouseeater.

Now, in all this time, I bet you are wondering where Zoey Calico was. Well, being 16, one really never knows most of the time. But for now, she was at home, enjoying one of her favorite meals: Mouse Sandwich.

Shocked? I'm not suprised. See, Zoey is 16 years old, with a form like a tigress. She is very pretty, usually wearing simple clothes that expose her curves, and has enough of a belly to make it cute. But don't let her appearence fool you. She LOVES to eat little furries, mice especially. She reforms them of course, but secretly, she wishes for her own personal foodstuff to fatten and play with... and cook and eat.

Doesn't sound like the ideal sister for Danny does it? Well, adjust your human mind to a furson mind and actually it makes a little more sense. A little. Sort of. Well... Not really.

I better get back on subject. She was in the middle of her meal when mom and dad pulled in with Danny in tow. Zoey did not see Danny, but was eager to meet her new little brother or sister. Of course, she thought it would be a cat.

She was all smiles and hugs as she opened the door, smiling at her mom and dad. "Welcome home!" She said, purring and smiling.

"Hey sweetie." Mr. Calico said, ruffling her headfur some. She smiled at her parents.

"Sooooo... where is he?" She said, looking around. Mrs. Calico ssmiled some.

"He's getting his stuff, then he'll be in. Why don't you help him?"

She smiled, but Mr. calico stopped her. "Just one thing. You see, his name is Danny, and he is..." At that exact moment, Danny walked around from behind the car, holding his stuffed kitty and a backpack. Mr. Caqlico sighed. "... he is a mouse."

Now, to understand her reaction fully, you must realize that Zoeyt believes that ice and other prey species are foodies, not family for preds. She loves them, don't get me wrong, but she could never see them as a member of her family. So naturally, her reaction was understood.

She fainted.

***************

When she came to a while later, Danny was sitting in a chair at the far end of the room, sulking again. Mrs. Calico tried to explain, but dsidn't get very far before before her daughter chimed in.

"And what will the kids inb my school think, hmm?! 'Oh look, there goes Zoey Calico, the sister of a breakfast! What a dweeb!' I thought we would bve getting a kitty mom!"

"Zoey!" Mr. calico said. "One thing I think those friends of yours at school should understand is that families are all different, especially lately. You did this same thing when you learned your mother got a job as a cub cooker, but you love it now!"

"But that's different!" She said, looking at Danny. "He's a MEAL!" She sighed some. "Mom.. I was eating a mouse sandwich when you sprang this on me." The parents sighed some, looking to Danny. But the boy already was strting to sniffle some. He suddenly got up, and ran into the other room.

"Zoey, go after him and apologize." Mr. calico said firmly, pointing in the direction Danny ran. But Zoey shook her head.

"The oinly way I'll apologize is if I get to eat him."

"NO!" Mrs. Calico said. Now, considering her profession, THAT was a shock. "He is family now, and he needs someone to love him. I want him to have a real family, not just the knowledge his father..."

"Dear..." Mr. Calico said suddenly. But Mrs. Calico was already crying. She left the room in tears as well. Mr. Calico looked to Zoey.

"Go find your brother." He said simply.

Zoey stood up at last, and wewnt after him. "He is NOT my brother." She said as she left the room.

***************

She found him at the foot of the stairs, just sitting there. She sighed some and tried to think like he was a member of...

No. She couldn't. After all, he was FOOD. And her FAVORITE FOOD to boot! How can she see him as family? He isn't family, and never will be. She had to make that clear right now. THAT she had to tell him, reguardless of what her parents said. And she would make that clear right now.

"Oh stop crying you baby." She said, sitting by him.

"I'm not crying."

She sighed. "You are food, you realize that? I'm going to eat you one of these days, and I won't let mom or dad interfere."

Danny said nothing, so she continued.

"I'll eat you and reform you over and over, reguardless. I will not call you brother, and I will not let mom or dad take away their love from me for you." She sighed some. "Look.. it's not that I don't like you... but i am a cat, and I eat mice. You're not a cat, so you can't be my brother."

Danny sniffled at that. "Leave me alone..."

"Not until you realize the facts, little Danny. Mice and cats never get along, and mice are meant to be cat food."

"I... I don't mind that..."

She tilted her head. He didn't? Well, that was good at least. But He was still on her turf, and she was NOT her brother.

"Look," She finally said, "Mice and cats are not meant to be together, and any attempt to let them be together is wrong." That was met with silence, then tears from Danny. At last, he stood up, his mouth quivering, until...

"YOU'RE JUST LIKE DAD!" He shouted, then ran upstairs. Zoey did not know what that meant. Who was his father? And wasn't what she said true? Mice and Cats are in different levels of the food chain.

Weren't they?

She stood there, looking upstairs, unti lshe saw that he had dropped his little stuffed kitty.

when she saw it, she started to wonder about the mouse in the house. Something here was not what it should be.

CHAPTER 4: Revelations

well, that ws how the first week went really, save for a lot of silence and the sound of Danny crying himself to sleep. His room, located right next to Zoey's was simple, with a dresser, a bed, some toys for a boy, and, of course, Danny's own stuffed kitty. But he rarely used much of what was in there. He slept on the floor by the closet, and held the little plushie tight as can be. Zoey sometimes would walk by the room in the night, and see the mouse. Time and time again she regretted her first words to him, but she did nothing about it.

Not a very happy beginning was it? I wish I could say it ot better in that first week, but... that was the best it got. It did not really improve until Saturday. zoey and Danny had notsaid a word to each other until then.

They were out in the park that day, seeing all the families and watching them play. Only Danny did not get involved, he just sat there and held the plushie. it was not long after that a cartain feline noticed him sitting there under a tree.

That feline was Mr. Calico.

"Hey there Danny. You alright?" he asked. But he got no reply. He sat down by him and sighed.

"Don't feel bad because of Zoey. She is a good girl, she just thinks she knows it all. I got into several fights with her the past month."

Danny looked to the feline. "She hates me. She's just like dad was." He held the feline tighter. Mr. Calico sighed at hearing this, but let Danny explain.

"Dad got mad when I hung out with a couple fleines at school. They were really nice, and they said I loked yummy. I have to admit... I was proud of that.

"But dad wasn't. He said that mice should not like cats, even though... my mom... well, he beat me every time I got home that week, to make sure I remebered that mice and cats are not to be together."

Mr. Calico sighed some, then smiled. "So... I have to ask... did you want to be yummy?"

Danny was quiet, then he nodded. "Yeah... I did. Mom told me it was ok to like that, but only wiht good furries. ones that would reform me. I thought... I wanted to tell Zoey that... and then she told me what dad said, almost word for word." He sniffled. He held the plushie tight. "Maybe I should go back. Maybe I am a... a freak."

Mr. Calico sighed some at that. Some adults see willing cubs as freaks or even of the devil himself. But, as Mr Calico put it...

"You are anything but a freak. In fact, you are very nice for wanting to feed others." A very true statement. But Danny sighed and shook his head.

"Then why would dad hurt me and mom for that? Maybe it WAS my fault she..." He started to cry, leaving Mr. Calico to do nothing else but hold him, like a father holds a hurt son. And to Mr. Calico, that is exactly what this was.

Danny was his son.

**********

As they left the park that day, Mr. Calico talked with his wife about what Danny said. Now, remember that Mrs. Calico's preofession was cooking willing cubs, so this was not unusal for her to hear about him being willing food. BUT, when she heard about how his father reacted...

"That's TERRIBLE! No wonder he was so sad! That mean man!" She hmmed some. "And Zoey said those things to him. Dear, did we mess up raising her?"

"No hon... She is just jealous I think." Mr. Calico said. "Plus, you DID say she couldn't eat him."

Mrs. Calico smacked her forehead. She wanted to protect him, and here she prevented him from being the one thing he probably wanted to be! But he sure did not sound like it at the orphanage...

Or did he? He never said he DIDN'T like it...

"Hon... I don't know what to do..." She finally said. But Mr. Calico sighed.

"WE are not the ones who have to do it. Zoey is... somehow."

Mrs. Calico nodded. She knew he was right, but when would her daughter see that?

CHAPTER 5: "Zoey... I'm scared."

THe next night brought on strong storms. Lighting flashed all over the city in ways no one had ever seen before. Only one in the Calico house was awake enough to see it though.

Zoey had not slept since that first night. She had felt terrible for hurting Danny, but her pride would not let her apologize to him. He was a MOUSe, for God's sake! Mice are food, not family!

Right?

Right???

She pondered this over and over each night, the wondering making her more and more nervous. She even asked some of her firends about the idea of a mouse in a cat family, but they were little help.

They thought it was a WONDERFUL idea! They could eat him, snuggle him, care for him, and protect him better than any mouse could. But when asked if the mouse could be a brother or sister, they giggled some and thoguht it was cute!

Big help. Some friends she has.

But now, she wondered if Danny really could be her brother, if she could...

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" A scream pierced her thoughts. Danny! She got out of bed and looked to his room.

Danny was there on the floor, fallen from his bed, huddled in a fetal position, wide eyed and sweating. He started to cry as he saw Zoey. "Zoey... I'm scared.... Daddy's going to kill me... I saw him here..."

Zoey looked at the mouse lying there, and her heart melted. He may be a mouse, and may not ever really be a brother to her, but... he needed her now.

She thought only for a second, as she realy wasn't a bad girl, and went in to see him.

"It's ok Danny... I... I'm here." She whispered, looking at the mouse. She could feel for him, she could. She held him in a hug, purring a little, trying to ease his pain.

But danny's tears would not stop. "He... he said he would kill me... and you ... and all of us... like he killed my mom."

Zoey looked at him. "He what?"

Danny sniffled some. "My dad beat mommy... and killed her."

Now you know why his father was arrested. He was only convicted for the child abuse, Danny's testimony not enough to convict him on murder charges, and no weapon was found. but he knows he did it. He just knows it.

Zoey realized the whole story now, and felt terrible. She held him tight, looking at him.

"well... he's a mouse right? Most mice still are afriad of cats. You can stay with me." Danny looked at her, sniffling.

"But.... I thought you hated me..."

Zoey sighed. She knew that was coming. "I don't hate you Danny... I am just jealous really. I really wanted to be an only child... and I am not used to having a... a brother." She said it. She called him her brother. "But... but I want you to stay... and I don't hate you."

"You don't? Really?"

She smiled a little. "Really... you're actually pretty cute. And I meant what I said before though... I will cook and eat you." She sighed some, hoping that didn't hurt his feelings. Oddly enough, he giggled at that!

Figures! The mouse was a vore in the making, and mama said she couldn't eat him! It just FIGURES! AH well.

She smiled and picked him up. She carried him back to her room. It was a large room, and even in the darkness it was a very friendly looking room, with plushies galore. He smiled and hugged her, the first time he smiled at her really since they met.

It touched her heart. I do not lie.

She laid him in bed first, tucking him in, then snuggled up next to him, holding him like a plushie. As the storm raged on outside, Zoey held little Danny. It was hard to sleep still, the scent of mouse now very strong, but she was able to eventually, her sleep filled with wonderful dreams. Not a bad reward.

Danny was asleep soon after, finally feeling safe in this house. For the first time since he arrived, he felt like he was home.

CHAPTER 6: Zoey's Boy

Morning sure was nice for Zoey. She woke up to the wonderful scent of mouse, her favorite food you must remember, and realized that it was Danny, curled up next to her, holding her as if she was a plushie. She chuckled some, then licked her chops. She was so close, and she could reform him without anyone...

"Zoey! Richard called, he wants to meet you in the park!"

Zory eeped and shot right up, almost tossing Danny out, who somehopw stayed asleep. She set to work right away, getting prettied up and putting on a nice dress.

Now, I think you can guess who Richard is. He is a cat... Zoey's boyfriend. He was pretty handsome too, as well as being as firm as Zoey on the ideas of mice as food.

Zoey smiled as she walked down. The Calicos had breakfast ready, but come on! This was RICHARD! She didn't have time for anything to eat! She waved goodbye to questioning parents, as she went off to the park.

Thank goodness it wasn't a far walk.

****************

Richard waited by a tree in the park, smiling as Zoey walked to her. He was a tough looking white and black cat, with black fur across his nose like a thick mustache. His eyes were his best feature though, a pale blue rarely seen among male cats.

Now, I must remind you to re examine what happened in the last chapter, as it has a lot of bearing on what was about to happen. For Richard had a gift for Zoey: A little girl mouse, done up like a eclair. She wimpered in her doughy bindings, begging to be free, but he looked to her with a glare, as if to tell her to behave or else.

Zoey smiled as she saw him, hugging him tight. "Hi there stranger." She said. Richard smiled and purred.

"mmmmm.... you smell like mouse, I love it. New perfume?" He asked. Zoey smiled some and shook her head.

"No.... new little brother." Rich started to smile, awwwing some.

"Well that's cool! When to I meet the little kitty?"

Zoey shook her head. "No Richard... he... he's a mouse."

There was a silence from him for a long time, then he started to laugh.

"Oh, you slay me! I thought for a moment you were being sincere!" Zoey lost her smile at that moment.

"I WAS." Is all she said. He stopped laughing, giving a look of shock.

"You...you're kidding! You have to be!" He looked at her, the little mouse still trying to break free from her dough bonds, but Zoey sighed.

"Rich... it's true. He was adopted.... and he went through a lot of hard times because... well... he likes cats."

Richard's eyeds got even wider. "A mouse voraphile? For a brother?!" He sputters some, leaning against the large tree. "And just when I think I heard it all. Zoey... is he... are you.... have you...?"

"Mom said I couldn't eat him, and I think I understand why." She siged some. "Danny was abused because of his wants."

Richard suddenly started to understand. somewhat. He understood why Zoey was liking him, though he himself would have him on a Bar-B-Q if he could. As for that mouse, she stopped struggling to listen.

Zoey looked to her boyfriend with a shiver. "I want to protect him Rich. But... is that bad? After all..." The fleine is silent, then smiles some.

"Based on what you're telling me... not one bit. Though I myself am still very confused about all this, I will support any decisions you make." He turns to the eclair. "I made this for us to share for breakfast, but now I wonder if that really is appropriate. she.. she wasn't willing to be a meal."

Zoey looks to the mouse, as she nods in agreement. The feline smiles some. "Does she know she'll reform? I mean, I am a little hungry... and she DOES look tasty." She looks to the mouse. "Besides, I highly doubt such a masterpeice would want to be wasted, right?"

The mouse sighed some, shaking her head. She really didn't want to be eaten, but it would be rude to denty the two a meal. The felines smile some and kiss her cheeks, tasting her at the same time.

Zoey smiled at the taste, the mouse delicious indeed. The mouse herself wasn't too happy as they sliced her up for breakfast, but got into it after a bit. They started at her feet, slicing off portins the size of big pie slices, the taste extrordinary, with chocolate icing and a chewy mouse filling. There was no gory stuff either, thanks to the little pill that causes regeneration and makes the consumption VERY clean. Only thing there was was tasty mouse meat, and Rich had even put in a tasty cream filling. Little detail really needs said about their romantic breakfast, other than to say that the mouse was, indeed, VERY tasty!

I suppose I should take a moment to tell you about the pill though. After the passing of the Cub Consumption Act (which I may talk about another time), a pill was introduced that allowed cubs to be eaten without any worry. It was an intresting development to say the very least, and was especially a major breakthrough for many young vores afriad to share their hidden intrest.

Well anyway, after some time, the mouse they gobbled up reformed before them. She looked at herself, patting her fur in various places, as if she was suprised that she was still alive.

"Yeah, we reformed you." Richard said. "But you better run away, or we'll eat ya all up again, tasty morsel!" The mouse eeped and ran away, giggling slightly.

"YOu do know she thought you were serious right?" Zoey said, as Rich used a tooth pick on his teeth.

"Who said I wasn't?" Zory punched him playfully as he said that. He may not totally understand the situation with Danny, but at least, no matter what, she had his support.

And at times like this, a girl needs support from her guy.

Of course, as for the matter with Danny and his... prefrences... that was about to be faced as well.

CHAPTER 7: Babysitting, Cat and Mouse Style

"WHAT?! Mom, I was supposed to go to the mall!" Zoey was complaining only three days later. She had been invited to a shopping spree with her feline buddies, only to find out her mom and dad scheduled their night out the same exact night.

"I'm sorry hon, you know we been planning this for sometime, and we need someone to watch Danny."

Again with Dany. She couldn't do what cats do with mice, even though he WANTS to be, and now she can't go anywhere because of him. She probably would have lost some friends because of him if he wasn't so darn cute. But now she might lose them anyway, as she cannot even go out to see them the one night they had planned!

Reguardless, she WAS starting to like Danny, and she DID like her parents a lot. So, eveentually, she said yes, right.

Dream on.

"It's not fair, you know! I have a life, reguardless of you both trying to make it so I don't live it!"

Mr. Calico sighed some, hearing his wife and daughter talk. This happened way too much at this age. He rememebred when she was loving and cuddly and helpful, like many of the kittens in the time of men... except for the helpful part. But that's another story.

"Now dear," He fianlly said, "We don't go out much, you can admit that, and you like Danny a lot. Now, we have some stuff in the fridge so you can make Danny dinner, and please make sure he gets a bath. We'll be home late, so please stay out of trouble tonight."

"But..."

"See you later!" Mr. Calico said, leaving Zoey standing there, jaws opened, unable to believe that she lost an argument.

AGAIN.

She sighed some and checked the fridge just to see what all was for dinner. It figured as she opened it: Cheese, fruits, some bread, various sandwich fixings, carrots... but the mice that were in there were all gone.

She was a CAT! She needed meat!

"Hi Zoey." Danny said, coming downstairs after a bit, almost right as she was thinking this. He stood at the entrance to the kitchen, watching her for a bit. "Did Mr. and Mrs. Calico leave?"

"Why is it you call me your sister but you won't call them mom and dad?" she asked, sighing some as she looked at him.

"Because they don't fell like mom and dad yet.. but you feel like my sister."

"But... ARRRRRRR..." She sighed. "Look! I'm a CAT! I like you a lot Danny, especially considering how cute you are. But please, if you're going to call me your sister, please call Mom and Dad... well... mom and dad!" She sighed and look in the fridge. "Now, will you please go play for a bit? I have to make you dinner."

Danny smiled wide all of a sudden. "Really?"

"Mom and Dad said for me to... wait... a.... sec..." She pondered that. She looked at him, rethinking that last statement. Heh, considering he was a vore, he MUST have heard it that way to! Why else would he get so excited? Besides, there wasn't anything really for her to eat, and plenty of side dishes to make Danny tasty...

"Danny... what do you think I meant?" She asked, playing it safe for the moment. She soon realized she didn't have to.

"That you were going to eat me." He giggled some, blushing. It may be intresting for Danny to be a vore, but... he was still embarassed somewhat. Of course, actually admitting it to Zoey just made her smile. She knew it!

"Danny... can you keep it secret from Mom and Dad?" She asked, reaching for Mrs. Calico's hidden stash of reformation pills. They are cheap and easy to make, so there was no worry about just one going missing.

"Um... yeah..." He said, tilting his head. She smiled and gave him one of the pills.

"Then take this." Zoey said, licking her chops. "And I'll get some water ready for some tasty mouse soup. After all, they DID say to give you a nice warm bath, and how better to do it than in soup?"

Danny yayed and swallowed the pill quickly, smiling and hugging. Zoey sighed some. 'What the heck,' she thoguht to herself. 'If I get caught, I'll still get the meal. Besides, I cannot take it anymore, this mouse is far too cute not to eat!' She smiled and got out a big pot, and put some water in to boil. Meanwhile, Danny went and scrubbed his fur. Zoety smiled as she watched him do it, getting some dirt in the kitchen sink.

"Where did you learn that?" she asked. Danny smiled.

"One of my old classmates a few years ago said I had to be clean if I would be cooked. Brings out the taste." Zoey just smiled. This kid was tasty even listening to! She smiled some, now not even regretting not going to the mall anymore. THEN she remmebered: Danny needed to eat too.

Besides, it would make him plump and juicy.

"Danny..." Zoey said. "There's some cheese and stuff in the fridge, can you get it out?" Danny smiled and did so, getting out all sorts of veggies, the cheese chunk (which was about as big as his head), some bread, some mustard (Pictures of a Danny sandwich flooded into Zoey's mind at this point) and a mushroom. Yes, just one mushroom. Pity isn't it?

While the water was heating, Zoey made a big sandwich for Danny to eat, slicing up the cheese and adding the condiments. She almost put Danny onit, then she remembered the soup. She smiled. "Perhaps next tiem we do this, you'll be on here to hmm?" she smiled, finishing it up for him. "Now eat up, and hurry, thje water is almost ready..."

Danny smiled and set to work right away, taking big bites and making quite a mess. She'd have to clean it later, right now she had tro make this boy tasty! As he ate, she put various spices on him, making sure they were onces that would cook into the little mouse, not just wash away.

As he ate, a nice little pudge started to develop on his belly, one which made Zoey drool with anticipation. Understandable, as a good meal is HARD to wait for!

Fianlly, after a long time, he finished the big sandwich and sat back. "ohhhhhh.... That was nummy..." He said, belchng the next instant. Zoey giggled some as she turned the heat down.

After all, one must wait about 45 minutes before getting into the water.

*******************

During that time, Danny and Zoey played a board came called Mouse Trap. It was a remake of an old human game, one that was timeless. Zoey chuckled at the thought of it, as did Danny. They also watched a couple cartoons that were on, there being a TV in the kitchen. The toons were funny, but a little corny to say the least.

Fianlly, about 50 minutes after Danny had finished, the water was boiling rapidly. It was time to make some soup. Danny smiled as Zoey picked him up, licking her chops.

"In we go!" She said, setting him in slowly. He giggled some, the water wonderfully warm, but noit too warm for him thank goodness. He giggled as he soon was in the pan, sitting down comfortably in it. It was largfe enough that he was able to just have his head sticking out of the water, though it started to get crowded as veggies were cleaned, sliced, and tossed in. A rich broth soon was being made as Zoey stirred the pot every now and then, pouring some of it over Danny. TO her delight, he acted like he was having a bath, scrubbing up with the broth as best as he could, even adding a little more pepper on his tail, which eventually just draped over the side of the pot. Zoey smiled and hummed as she cooked the mouse, purrring in anticipation, occassionally taking a taste.

Now, Zoey was a very good cook thanks to her mother, and she knew exactly how long to cook Danny so he would not drift off to sleep, but would still be at the peek of flavor. After about an hour of boiling the little mouseboy, she turned off the heat. Little Danny clearly was very drowsy, of that there was no mistake, but he steamed from being cooked up, and looked positively scrumptous!

Zoey licked her chops, gewtting a bowl. She then saw a problem.

"Danny.. .we don't have bowls big enough for a whole mouse." She admitted. Danny was silent, then he had an idea.

"Welll.... why don't you just eat me on a plate, and have the soup on the side?" To this, Zoey smacked her forehead. THe MOUSE was finding the obvious solutions she should be finding. Ah well, just as long as he ends up in her belly, she don't mind.

She grabbed a large platter, and the last apple from the fridge. Plopping it into Danny's mouth, she scooped him out onto the platter. It was a perfect fit, and Danny just looked so cute! She licked her chops, putting a little broth over the mouse boy, then gertting more soup into a bowl. then, there was the thought on how to eat him. She pondered only for a minute before deciding to eat him au natural, as it were, with paws and teeth. Danny clearly likerd that idea, as he giggled around the apple.

Without much ado, she dug right in, Chewing on one of his arms fuirst. as said, there was no blood or icky stuff inside, it had all tuned into tasty meat and fat, and a good mix too. Zoey mmmed in dleight, Danny was simply deeeeelicious! THe meat was soft and tender, and had the right mix of flavors.

Mice may be her favorite food, but Danny just became her favorite mouse!

Then... she heard the car. her parents were home.

Oh oh...

CHAPTER 8: Cute and Tasty

"Zoey Calico, how COULD you?!" Mrs. Calico said, seeing her daughter with a plump tummy and Danny about half eaten. Mama was mad.

A sad thing too. They had just met a teacher that had room in their class for Danny come the school year, and their dinner out was heavenly. Yet they came home to their daughter eating their son, a sight which among humans would have been criminal.

It almost was here too. Or so it seemed.

"Zoey, we have a wonderful dinner, find Danny a nice teacher for the coming school year, and what happens?! Yo ueat him for dinner! Missie, I have just one question for you..."

All throguh the lecture, Mr. Calico had been chuckling to himself. Now, he started to snicker. but Zoey just sat back and patted her tummy, which was far from full really, and had a worried look.

"Yeah?" She finally asked.

Her mother smiled some. "... ... Can we have a taste?"

You could have knocked Zoey over with a feather! They knew?!

Mr. Calico eexplained. Danny had talked with him in the park, and Mrs. Calico was told from him. Zoey was wide eyed.

"And why wasn't I told?! I could have been eating Danny for some time now!" Danny giggled some around the apple, having lots of fun at this!

"Honestly," Mr. Calico said with a snicker, "we wanted to punish you for what you siad in the beginning to Danny, without actually punishing you."

"Huh?" Zoey said, confused.

"When you are a parent, you'll understand." Mr. Calico smiled and put on a napkin, sitting down after getting some soup. Mrs. Calico took a taste and smiled.

"Wonderful! Very nicely done Zoey darling!" She smiled and kissed her, a look of shock still on her face. Danny just smiled around the apple and sighed. Not a bad way to be in the family really.

Besides, all three cats kept complimenting on how tasty he was all the whle he was being chopped up, chomped, chewed, swallowed, and basically eaten up. Before long, not a bit of soup was left and not a bite of Danny was left uneaten. All that remained were three big bulging bellies... and one messy kitchen.

******************

Danny reformed about an hour later, right in trhe living room. The kitchen was clean by now, and the felines were sitting there, licking their chops and patting their tumies. Danny smiled happily at the sight, the biggest he had yet.

He really felt he belonged now, not just because he got eaten, but because he didn't for awhile. Mr. and Mrs. Calico had treated him like he was their son, and Zoey... Zoey was a wonderful sister now. Danny had a special; bond with her especially.

As for Zoey, speaking of which, she couldn't ask for a better brother. He was incredibly nice, wonderfully cute.... and simply divine to eat! Cute AND tasty! What more could be asked for?

"Danny...." She said, smiling as she came over to him. "Thanks."

Danny smiled and hugged her tummy.

"No." He said. "Thank you Sister."

Zoey smiled. She accepted that now. In her heart, she assumed, she always did. She just never wanted to admit it.

Until now.

EPILOUGE How I Know

Now I suppose you are wondering how I know this story, hmm? Well, I know because I was that teacher they saw at dinner. Me, Mister Ebony.

Intresting isn't it?

Well, about a wekk later, I met with the family, and we got Danny registered to be in my class come the end of his first month. He was very happy about that, to have a cat for a teacher.

They always like me it seems, and I never know why. Is it the eyes?

All I know is that when I learned about his adoption process, I hoped with all my heart at that point that he would be adopted. So did he really now. He was all smiles and giggles again, and when we first met, it was clear he was going to become one of my favorite students.

Well, anyway, all the rest of that first month, Danny went on picnics, played ball with local kids, went to the local pizza place, and even got to see a movie.

But Zoey got to eat him every day. Only Zoey got that, because she and him had a special bond, thanks to that stormy night. He was truly her brother in his eyes. We all hoped that his next two months would turn out as good, so he would be adopted.

But that is for another time. For the moment, up until about his third week in my class, all was at peace. For the moment, Danny Dunuvar was happy. And that is saying a lot, considering how he started.
