Interesting background. The tree (if that is what it is) is a bit of a mystery. One wonders where it roots, and how much of the roots you don't see. You'd expect it to be a very small part.

It's very much a tree, no matter how many hundreds of feet tall it is. I haven't given much thought to the roots, but I would say that those roots reach all the way to the bottom of the dark mountain valley and deeper still.
