Enough to live in the city your living in as a cop. Or else there wouldn't be detectives... It should make sense that you get paid enough as a cop to live in the city your in.

She's not in college. Not a stripper or call girl, the comic says nothing about that. It says she's paying off the loans. That will take years. And no, detective doesn't pay a 'fair amount' in many cities. and who knows--it's probably even worse in this comic's universe. Not enough to pay off all the listed debts in a rational time.
