Edmund is having alot of doubt in his skills as a scientist and feels his skills is being looked at as evil then good, so he feels hopeless, but yet Melissa doesn't believe so as she places her hand on his face, looking into his eyes with a serious look while saying "you are good, there is hope, just right now you got doubt, but there is hope, let me be your hope to strengthen your reason for all the good you do".
