Deep inside of the Divine's Shadow, there's a network of maintenance shafts and corridors for various technicions and huragoks to travel through to get to different parts of the ship or do repairs, check ups and behind the scenes upgrades. While the Hull of the ship is over 40 meters thick of solid nanolaminate armor, the decks inside are what house the maintenance shafts. And that's where we find one of the many non combatant techs, Ri'ma.
Sangheili and even non sangheili are able to enlist into the forces on Ro'mano's ship as either combatants, or non combatants. enlisting as a combatant sends you down the road toward intense combat training and everything that comes with it. As a non combatant, you have to assist in other ways. even if you're not going to do the fighting, you still have to do your part. That can mean crawling through ducts to do repairs, doing food and sanitation work. or even entertainment for keeping up the moral.
With the additional openings for non combatant work, many female sangheili enlist in that field, so while the combatant section of the Divine's shadow has a 10 to 1 ratio of males to females. The non combatant areas almost completely reverse it. being nearly 8 females for every 1 male in the non combatants enlisting groups.
Ri'ma here being one of them, she's near sighted, something that even aliens can come down with. So this made her inelligable to enlist as a combatant, but she had never been one to fight. so she enlisted as a non combatant since she was always very tech savy, so she works as an engineer. taking advantage of her near sightedness to do fine hand work with the same or greater precision than a Kig'yar sniper.
While huragoks are still the go to maintenance taskers, they're limited in numbers, and aren't great for applying upgraded technologies into existing modules. often instead taking things apart to put them back together. so that's where we find Ri'ma, currently running a diagnostic test on a module panel after installing the new component.
