Anubis may be the hottest dog in Ancient Egypt, but Thoth has always resonated with me. He is self-created, inventor of writing and art, patron of scribes, devisor of magic and geometer of the heavens; in short, just the sort of bird I look up to.
I have him here in the ruins of one of his temples, clutching a sheaf of papyrus sheets and a writing stylus. Above him curl the arcs and measures of the sky, including the sun-boat of Ra and the polestars.
