Many of us have seen the amazing things that trained dogs or cats can do on shows: Talents and tricks that will wow everyone, because it is something we rarely see from our own untrained pets. I look at my own cat, and he is a layabout, uninspired by his environment, and does not really care much for anything I try to tell him.
It is the same for Pokémon, but we tend to see it from an awkward perspective because in most cases all we ever see is trained Pokémon that follow Trainer's commands, and none of the lazy housepet Pokémon who suffer a monotonous daily routine. It creates a misleading image that all Pokémon aspire for top-ranking greatness and that all pet owners are Trainers. XD
