it should interesting for mindes to explain making that poor zorua cry by calling it a freak.

this is merely a hunch, but maybe he's collecting them cuz he wishes he was a shiny and since he's not, he's compelled to collect shinies. I watch Criminal Minds and this seems like a type of unsub behavior.

I came to this hunch after 2 pages x3 and maybe it's uncontrollable and wants to stop. We'll find out soon i guess x3

It's not Mindes in these shots. The text bubble isn't even the same color, and none of these Pokemon are on his list.

oh whoops XD

well my unsub profile i think still sticks if it's not mindes
this unsub may have been picked on at some point by one or more shinies and that could be his compulsion to collect them or was hatched from a family of shinies but it didnt pass on. The fact that shinies seem to be outcasts in this universe, it makes it easy for him to win them over with kindness so this unsub has some intelligence and seems very trusting at first.

again, all just a hunch lol

A really naive person could maybe ignore the red flags and justify some of this as maybe roleplay or fetish videos when the "actors" were adults but once we see a child being berated it's pretty clearly much worse than that.

Ambus needs to split for his own safety's sake.

A reason why I extended the comic a bit further than it was originally supposed to be is because I wanted to make that distinction very clear. It's why it's better to wait for the ending to make judgment calls instead of abandoning ship beforehand... Sometimes very bad relationships CAN work out even after you tell your friend tens of times to just LEAVE them, which it amazes me the dedication one commits despite how shitty their partner can be. I don't understand how my friend did it. Not that I'm encouraging anyone to stay in a relationship like the one Mindes is putting forth from what we've seen so far, but... Some people are that committed.

Best of luck to your friend.

Now, I'm interested in how many more twists your friend can take.

I don't really talk to them anymore. They went off the deep end in terms of politics and started hating on me for the job I do so it's kind of like......... you're willing to ruin our friendship just because of my job as law enforcement? Were they ever REALLY my friend? Or was he just so mental that this was bound to happen because logic doesn't reach him? Maybe it's not love that's making him stay with her. It would explain why he's sticking with someone who verbally puts him down at any turn yet he still says he loves her. I don't know. I wish I could understand what runs through his mind.

Who knows if they settled things. I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up similar to how this story ends.

Ever since Stonewall, police haven't been exactly looked up to by the LGBTQ community.

They also seem rather eager to use deadly force lately. Not that Grimart does any of this but their friend likely saw them as culpable to it.
GrimArt
5 years, 5 months ago
Deadly force is only used when, on the use of force continuum, a suspect is one level down, which allows us to move one level up (lethal force). If someone's doing something that requires us to use lethal force, it is justified 99.9% of the time except in the .2% of cases where it isn't. One million LEO make contact with millions of citizens each day. Most LEO have never fired their gun on the streets in their entire career.  There is so much paperwork and trials that goes on after you fire a gun. For one to think that we're loose with our guns doesn't understand what the life of an officer really is. They don't understand what we're trained for, trained to look for, and why we do the things we do.

It's why I highly encourage anyone who thinks negatively about the police to attend a Citizen's Police Academy wherever offered, to get a dose of reality.

The LGBT community doesn't seem to realize that we're the reason more of them haven't been killed. If we weren't here to protect them, like the society they so wish for, there would be a genocide of LGBT people. A world without law is a world where the queer have no chance against a religious ideology. God said gays aren't allowed; gays are dead. Muslims don't like transgenders OR gays. All of you'd be gone. Don't even have to be religious; enough people would think you're weird enough to kill.

Isn't Mimdes supporting this group though? I mean he is an active member and is giving tips to people who do those cruel things. I would assume it is safe to say that Ambus should stay away from him and maybe even report this.

holy fuck i didn't expect a page so soon. owo

i have many questions, one of them is me asking if he's going to develop some sort of Stockholm hysdrome if whatever he saw in that phone actually happens to him.

or something!

Nah, no Stockholm. Just a dude who's fallen in love for the first time and doesn't know how to handle this. They say your first love is always the strongest, most painful.

Wow.  This is a very sharp turn.  It's pretty nice how he may still be willing to hear him out and give him the benefit of the doubt on this, but it's no longer a personal thing that Ambus has the right to decide for himself whether its worth it.  The stakes are much higher than their relationship here; people are being kidnapped, tortured, raped, and possibly murdered by this ring (can't exactly just let them go from this, and they're reported missing).  If Ambus doesn't bring this to the authorities, he's complicit in some SERIOUS evil, even if Mindes isn't personally the one committing the worst of it.

I'm really wondering what could possibly justify this, or if it's some sort of intentional manipulation.  But right now this seems to be such over-the-top evil that it's no longer something Ambus has the right to decide on his own.  Mindes could possibly just be a fetishist but it seems there's VERY real harm going on that can't be ignored within this ring.

I'm particularly concerned with the use of the word "harvested" in his count.  That doesn't sound like just sexual conquest or anything.  It sounds much, much, much darker.  If he's had a hand in any abductions, for example, he's just as guilty of anything that happened to them down the line, even if it wasn't by his own hands.  Just the subscription alone is damning, but he seems to have been personally involved with people you've described as his "victims".  Reassurances that he's never personally murdered anyone doesn't reassure about his involvement in some unspeakably evil stuff.

I know it's a "grim" story and all.  I know what I signed up for by reading.  But damn, this is so overpoweringly dark that it threatens to completely eclipse the character focus of the rest of the story.  I really wonder where you're going with this.

ive never seen a comic go so off the wall like this before. its turning into a horror story when it started as two cute boys falling in love, and its clear you've put a ton of thought and effort into writing it. bravo, im hooked for the story rather than the porn. i hope ambus still gets a happy ending though

Mindes supports (this section of the site requires a subscription) a website that features shiny Pokemon being kidnapped, raped, and tortured, some of whom appear to kids. Thus far the pictures we've seen of Ambus on the site are nothing particularly violent or objectionable, but Mindes is clearly interested in the side of things that are violent and exploitable, even if he either doesn't do these sort of things himself or doesn't plan to do anything like it to Ambus.
buithebuizel

Well that's no good at all.
Gunblazer42

Oh boy. Internal self justification. That's how it always starts. It's really nice that it's hard to tell what's going to happen since there's still too many unknowns. Mindes is manipulative and a stalker, but he hasn't killed anyone. He's obsessed with shinies, but he hasn't actually done any kidnapping otherwise it would be weird that he'd know all these shinies (according to his "harvest" list, he's known a few) and then they just go missing.

The site is clearly about abusing and raping and torturing shinies, but that whole top panel of the previous page was clearly different websites. While a bit of a stretch, it's possible he joined the site just so he can see shinies, like how we all have accounts here and at other sites since they have related content. And after all, Ambus saw notifications from another website about his pictures that clearly weren't from the Dark Zone.

It's actually kinda funny. The case can still be argued that Mindes is an innocent if overeager shiny lover, and an argument could be made that he really wants to do bad--but not murdering--things to shinies. Even if he does want to lock Ambus up in a basement for the rest of his life (and the jury's still out on that one since he had all this time to do it if he wanted!), Mindes, even at his most manipulative, doesn't threaten violence like a sociopath, and, of course, if he were to kill a shiny, he wouldn't be able to take any more pictures of them and such. Maybe he actually wants the shiny Lycanroc as a lover. Maybe he wants him because of his obsession. Maybe he wants to do violent things to him. Maybe he just wants a friend.

Last night I liked where it was going because it seemed like it was about to go super dark. Now that I've had more time to think about it, and seeing this page, it's hard to say if this will actually go dark or if it'll make a turn toward "good" because there's a lot of ways this could go, and I'm eager to see more. You're really good at this, Grim.

Jeez, this is some pretty intense stuff! I just stumbled on this comic for the first time today and you totally drew me in with the gorgeous art style and fascinating characters, and now I'm utterly terrified about what might happen to Ambus if he doesn't go to the authorities with what he's found. And does Mindes actually love him or is he just another trophy to hunt and (likely) slaughter when he's done with him. This is some seriously scary business, and I'll be +Watch'ing to see how it all turns out, with paws crossed for Ambus's safety.

On a more personal note, this comic hit really close to home because once about 14 years ago I trusted a psycho. Not quite psycho to Mindes's level, but pretty close. What I learned from the experience is that some people are just broken and no amount of love and tenderness can fix them, no matter how much I might have wished otherwise. That and that "A good nothing is better than a bad something." We lived together for 3 months until one day I packed my bags, left him a letter on the counter explaining my decision to leave, and got away safely while he was at work; with some help from a friend. I moved halfway across the country and haven't heard anything from him since then, and I never reported him to the police for the less-than-legal things on his computer. I've Google searched his name a few times since then and as far as I can tell he's never hurt anyone in real life or gotten into any legal trouble, but I always wondered if leaving him to his life and not contacting the authorities was the right thing to do. It's something I'll probably always wonder about, and I suppose that's probably why I found this comic so interesting. It's asking a question that I've been pondering off and on for over a decade, and I'll be interested in seeing if Ambus has the same realizations and makes the same choices I did.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with a topic like this.
I thought about going the route you did, but running away would be a bit too easy. The ending is going to be kind of weak but I think assumptions and prejudice make a person out to more than what they really are, so the truth seems kind of blasé.

If the content on their computer is illegal, it would have been GREAT to report that to the police. However, it's understandable why you would leave them instead of tangling yourself in their mess even further.

It's a really tough situation to be in, because even though I knew I had to get out of there I still cared about the person I left behind and had doubts as to whether they would ever actually hurt anyone in real life, I think they just liked looking at things online and fantasizing. And if I did turn them in to the police after I left then it would have been sure to prevent them from ever again working in the field that they had spent 6 years going to school for and pretty much ruin their life. And knowing that they already hated themselves and were on the verge of suicide convinced me not to do something that would have probably pushed them over the edge. I still don't know if I made the right decision, but I haven't thought about it much the last few years until I stumbled on this comic.

In any case, since the comic is entirely a work of fiction you're free to take it in any direction you want because no one is really going to get hurt. I love Ambus as a character and hope things work out safely for him, but whatever happens happens and I'll be along for the ride. :)

I've read some of your comments about Mindes, and it sounds to me that you might be going the path I'm thinking of.
Before reading your comments, I saw Mindes in a horrible light at this point. I was able to explain away his behavior up before this discovery on his phone. Now, with the information you said, I can see Mindes being someone who has a fetish for shinies. He might also want to help shiny pokemon in his own way, twisted or otherwise... not so sure which now. I'm more curious now about what you have planned instead of scared that things would get even darker.

This brings memories from reading Addiction. Oh, goodness, I hope what was narrated in that comic wasn't so much like your life.
I know this must be random to say on another comic with a whole another plot. I decided to react after reading the description.
I love your stories, I just hope your life is progressively feeling better and safer. May you stay healthy and feel safe, take care and rest well at night!
