Character Description
John Camber is a griffin who works as a freelance magician.

Unusually for a magician, John also knows a bit about technology. His technomancy is well-known in magical circles.

Known spellset: Healing touch, magical blast, mage hand 2.0 (powerful and precise telekinesis) and a strength enhancing enchantment that prevents John from using spells while it's active.

At all times, he has personal enchantments active for enhanced toughness and for insulation from heat and cold (which is very useful when you fly as much as he does).
Personality
Conscientious, Dependable, Pragmatic, Self-Confident

When using magic, John prefers more practical spells and enchantments. For example, he wouldn't be likely to give your bling any charisma-enhancing enchantments but if you wanted him to enchant your jacket to make it armoured or insulated, he'd have no issue with the request.

Most griffins like John prefer to check their pride by humbly serving others, preferably non-griffins.
Likes/Dislikes
Likes: Exploring, Flying, (Computer and Tabletop) Gaming, Magic.

Dislikes: Being forcefully grounded, any damage to his wings (he tends to get exceptionally violent towards anyone who does so) and any serious harm that comes to anyone he considers to be "his own."
Background/History
Nationality: British

Legal Status: British Citizen, no criminal record. Suspected by the London Consilium of being responsible for his master's disappearance.

John Camber was a mage's apprentice when he overheard that the mage in question was planning to sell John's soul to a demon at the next Solstice. John couldn't confront his teacher about it to keep from getting killed or corrupted, so he spent his days learning how to cast spells and enchant objects, and by night he carefully tried to find a way to both keep the demon from taking his soul and his teacher from killing him for botching the deal. And he found it!

John found that most demons will only take a soul that you actually own. Since he didn't sign anything that actually said that he gave his soul to his master, he could just tell the demon that the deal was fake. Which he did on the next Solstice, when the deal was scheduled. The demon told John's master "Foolish mage! You sought to cheat me?! Your apprentice invokes our laws correctly, for we take only the souls of the damned and the willing... and the souls of those who would dare cheat us are both! PREPARE TO DIE!"

John's master put up a fight, but in the end, he fell. Figuratively and literally.

That was when the demon calmed down and looked John in the eye, saying "We have a special place in Hell for people who try to sell souls they do not own. I knew you were there the night your master made that deal with me, Mr. Camber. I was going to get a spellcaster either way and I now have a very experienced one, thanks to you. For better or worse, your soul is still your own. Farewell."

When the demon departed, dragging John's master screaming into Hell with her, John immediately implemented the second part of his plan. During his tutelage, John had made contact with several friends in the United States. He informed them that he was coming over and then he cleaned out his now-former master's safe. He wouldn't miss it where he was going.

John booked a room at Heathrow Airport, and in the morning he took a plane for the Americas.
World/Setting
Basically modern-day furry earth with mystical, sci-fi and superheroic elements.
Body
Height: 6 feet.

John has golden brown fur and feathers and a yellow eagle beak, built for tearing meat.

John's gloves conceal sharp talons which are highly dangerous, especially when combined with his strength-enhancing enchantment.

John is literally eagle-eyed, allowing him to accurately see further than most, about 10 times as far as an ordinary human can. His wings have a cruising speed of 120 MPH.

One thing that John needs is plenty of meat due to a hypercarnivorous metabolism. He can eat vegetables, fruits and grains without falling ill, but he needs meat to sustain himself. Too little and he gets too tired to take off.
Clothing
Casual and comfortable is John's preference. All shirts and jackets of his are designed to accommodate his wings, and any major city will have shops that sell wing-friendly clothes. (About one in ten shops will have wing-friendly options)

John prefers to wear boots or at least some high-tops, as they're less likely to fall off while flying.
Accessories
John wears special gloves to protect other people from his sharp talons. He needs to wear them for most things, taking them off mostly for combat, hygienic or medical reasons.

The gloves are made with conductive material, allowing John to use touchscreens without breaking them. John has multiple pairs of such gloves on him at all times.

He possesses paper and PDF schematics of the gloves, so any decent glover can make them if they have the materials.

He also has two accessories that he lets other people use. He has a tandem harness allowing him to safely get someone else airborne as well and a pair of aviation goggles, which are a replica of those used in the Battle of Britain. When asked about why he got that specific pair, he said "If I'm going to lend them to other people, I need to be sure they work. And you can't get more strenuous working conditions than armed combat now, can you?"
