Sunny, with warm winds ruffling his head feathers. The breeze still felt nice in contrast to how it has been feeling for the past two weeks.
Unbearable heat and no wind to speak of. The shop had been hot and smelled from all the motor oil and sweat. The only reason he didn't have to work in there for too long was that he had fainted a couple of times.
Right now it was actually cool enough for him to be wearing blue jeans and his favorite red and black jacket over his white t-shirt.
Breathing in the fresh air and letting it out with a sigh, Jet took in his surroundings. He couldn't see anyone at the moment. It was still early, he had come out here around five a.m. He wanted to get some riding done before his dad made him work in the shop all morning.
Speaking of his dad, he didn't even know Jet was here. He had snuck out of the house to go riding. He had taken his dad's board since he doesn't have one of his own. As long as he gets back before his dad wakes up, it'll be fine. Not like he uses it anymore.
Just as he was about to throw down his broad to enjoy what little time he still had, he saw something out the corner of his vision. Something blue that was approaching him fast. He managed to jump back before he was hit. He heard an amused 'sorry' as the person passed him.
Jet glared in the guy's direction.
"What the hell!? Watch where you're going, asshole!" He squawked, even though there was no way the guy heard him from so far away. Or so he thought.
The rider made a sharp u-turn and started coming back, though at a slow pace. Jet took the time to actually notice what he was riding. His eyes widen slightly.
He was hovering.
Well, his board was. That he was on. So technically he was also hovering.
The machine was kind of designed like Jet's own skateboard. It had no wheels and was very rounded. What kind of board was that?
'I bet it cost an arm and leg for something like that.' Jet snarked to himself.
The rider stopped in front of him and Jet took a moment to analyze him.
The rider was a hedgehog and he was very... blue. Unnaturally so.
'He must dye his fur.' Jet thought.
He looked about the same age as Jet(who is 13), maybe a bit younger. His eyes were green, making Jet(who is green with blue eyes) realize their colors were compliments of each other. He was so wearing a red sleeveless hoodie, ripped black jeans and some custume looking red sneakers.
"'Sup?" The blue hedgehog said with an easy smile stretching his lips. He hadn't gotten off his board, making Jet have to look up at him. Damn it.
"'Sup'!? That's all you have to say to me after almost crashing into me?" Jet asked angrily.
"I said sorry." The hedgehog said, sounding not sorry in the slightest.
"Tch." Jet crossed his arms.
His mom always said that first impressions were important. And as far as first impressions go, he was beginning to think his guy was a real dick.
Putting that on the back burner for now, Jet glance at the guy's board again, interest peaking once more.
"What is that anyway?" He tilted his head to the board in gesture.
The hedgehog looked down briefly before looking back to Jet in complete astonishment.
"You mean you don't know what an Extreme Gear is!?"
"A what now?"
"You have got to be kidding..."
Jet just raised an eyebrow in response.
"Holy shit, you're serious." The hedgehog gaped at him. He finally got off his board, Extreme Gear, and Jet realizes he was a bit shorter than him. Damn It.
The board lowered to the ground, seeing as it's rider was no longer on it. The hedgehog picked it up. He must have pressed something on it as it transformed into... something that looked like a rounded briefcase as far as Jet could tell.
"It's only the most advanced and sickest board to hit the market." The hedgehog grinned as he spoke. "It's gotten so popular that big-name companies have started holding races and stuff for it. Obliviously to cash in on it." A look a anger flashed across the hedgehog's face so quickly, Jet thought he imagined it before it was replaced by excitement.
Jet was honestly amazed by what he was hearing and wondering why he had never heard of this before. Though to be fair, his dad always hogged the one t.v. they owned, and his phone had been taken away until his grades improved. Damn it.
"-Want to try it out?"
Jet had been lost in his thoughts and hadn't even realized the guy was still talking until just then.
"F-for real?" Jet stared at the case that was being presented to him.
The hedgehog just nodded with a small smile.
Jet took the case carefully, he didn't know how durable this thing was. He fumbled with it for a moment.
"Press the button in the middle." The hedgehog said with an amused lit to his voice.
Jet did just that and was startled when the case transformed immediately in his hands. Thankfully he didn't drop it.
'Alright. It's just like learning to ride a skateboard for the first time. Except not...'
Jet swallowed nervously. "So, h-how do I uh..."
"Just put it down and step up, but be careful, it'll rise as soon as you get on it."
The hawk stared down at the board apprehensively before setting it down. It looks normal and unassuming. Alright, he could do this. He was pretty good at balancing on a skateboard, how hard could this be?
He stepped up on the board and immediately startled as the board raised quickly in the air. He held out his arms to balance himself as he staggered.
"Good job." The hedgehog praised him from the sidelines.
"Huh, this isn't so bad." Jet remarked with a smirk, cockily praising himself in his head for being amazing.
A light chuckle came from the hedgehog. "It's not as easy as you think. You only got on the board, now you have to actually move."
Jet huffed. "That shouldn't be too hard. What do I do?"
"Just lean forward a little."
"That's it?"
"Yup."
'This is going to be easier than I thought.' Jet thought with a laugh.
He leaned forward just a bit and went flying a lot faster than he thought he would.
"HolyShitHolyShitHolyShitHolyShitHo-Ly-Shit!!"
In his panic, he crouched down and secured both of his hands to the front of the board tightly.
'I'M GOING TO DIE!!' His panicked mind yelled. There was a stone wall coming up and he instinctively leaned to the left, turning the board sharply and just missing an unpleasant and very painful meeting with it.
"How do I stop!?" He shouted, hoping the hedgehog could hear him.
"Lean back!"
When he did, the board stopped almost instantly. The momentum of it causing Jet to go flying off it and landing in a bush. God Damn It.
"Owwww...." Jet moaning in pain, bringing a hand up to clutch his aching head. He vaguely heard quick footsteps drawing closer to him. The blue hedgehog's shadow appeared over him. Huh, that's funny, one shadow, two hedgehogs.
"Dude, you good?" They both asked with twin looks of concern on their faces.
He gives a thumbs up, not sure if he was looking at the right person at the moment.
"What time is it?" He asked, finally sitting up and rubbing his sore back.
The hedgehog glanced at his wristwatch, which also looked very high tech. "Uh... about eight?"
Jet's icy blue eye widened in fear. "Oh fuck! My dad is so going to kill me!" He jumped to his feet, grabbing the abounded skateboard and dashed off in the direction of his house.
The blue hedgehog shook his head. He got on his gear and started back on his own way home. His siblings and uncle were probably wondering where he is.
