Music for Piano No. 3 (Fade Away)
Music for Piano No. 4 (Arabesque Dream)
this was a small project from my Music Tech class 2 semesters ago. its taken me so long to finally post it because i wanted to go back and redo some of the things i didn't like about the song.

in the project we had to use loops as well as include an example of what is called "granular synthesis" and we had to record our own samples. the story for how i chose my sample is as follows...

" one night i was sipping a margarita out of a crystal margarita glass, i dunno i guess i was just feeling fancy at the time. anyway, when i finished the drink i bumped my fingernail into the glass and it made this beautiful chime sound, and i said "thats what i want to use!" it might have been the tequila talking but i washed out the glass, setup my recording equipment, took a think plastic spoon and gently tapped the rim of the glass to record the sound i wanted for the sample. i then took that same sample and clipped the ends off until just the tiniest bit of sound remained (granular synthesis) and used that for the second requirement of the project

while the sample was intriguing, i unfortunately did not record it very well and it was out of tune when i plugged the sound into my MIDI controller. so i went back and re-recorded the sampled parts with a synth bell that was in tune. the second file is the original with the sampled margarita glass and a rough mix.

I love it!!! feels like it has more of a downtempo vibe than a breakbeat vibe; I love the chimes <3!

thanks! yeah i guess you are right, i couldn't really come up with a name, but i felt like the drum pattern (especially at the end) had more of a breakbeat style to it.

and thanks, you listen to both versions to hear the difference in those bell parts?
