Okay, this is a bit of a weird one and not furry or really related. Rather, it's a sighting report. I thought some users here might be interested and it'll probably start an interesting discussion. I reported this to MUFON through their totally web 1.0 site. Seriously, it looks like they haven't updated since the 90s.

I painted the object I saw and here it is with the sighting report and more. I was actually a little surprised it appeared as a solid object. I'd only seen it as a light before this. I'm not one of those people who thinks UFOs are nuts and bolts alien hardware. The phenomenon just doesn't act like that. It acts like a paranormal type phenomenon akin to faerie and phantom animal sightings and other weird stuff, not really like solid spaceships. Some must be nuts and bolts drones or other crap and this one kind of looks like a drone but I didn't think it moved like one.

For years I've been encountering a light in the sky in this particular area. Several times it shined down on my moving car for a short time during the night (and once just before dark) but I never saw it directly until last week. Before this encounter I visited an ancient site. I got the email mentioned while at the trailhead about to hike there to watch the sunset alignment on the solstice with an expert on local lithic sites.

Don't even ask about the reservation mentioned below unless you want to know the sad history. I still have some stuff salvaged from the rez in my basement. I'm sure you can Google old news stories about it and the arson fire. Incidentally, I was leading a hike on a nearby ridge the day the Tamarack burned and watched the whole thing from a distance and the group was in danger from the fire. Later, we watched the plume of smoke from an overlook and then ate dinner at a Mexican restaurant while watching the fire trucks going by.

I've spoken to several people who have encountered this or other phenomena in the same area, including the lady who just died who lived at the Tamarack up until the time of the fire. My mother's boyfriend had the light shine down on him while he was riding his motorcycle on Route 52, which terrified him for some reason. :-P Another lady who lives in the area, the same one who emailed me about the death, encountered a strange owl that hovered in front of her moving car on the same road. Owls don't normally do that.

I'm censoring a name below because the woman's son is dating someone who I believe is on FA and I don't want to start some kind of drama.

'Little Light' Sighting - MUFON Case #92919

Thursday, June 21st, roughly 9:30 PM

Route 52, Greenfield Park, NY, headed from Ellenville toward Woodbourne

While driving on Route 52 at roughly 50 MPH I noticed something that seemed to be floating above the roadway ahead. I couldn't see it clearly because another car was tailgating very close but wouldn't pass, which is a common occurrence on this road. I pulled off into the parking lot of the Greenfield Park post office to let the car go by. As I was turning the car back toward the roadway I thought I saw the object in the streetlights. With the car window open I asked, "Is that you little light?" The object seemed to move further up the road. I pulled back onto the road and pursued it. It stayed ahead but not that far ahead. It may have been 100' to 300' away and moving along with my car. It was hard to tell the scale of the object. It appeared to be a little more than two feet across, roughly the size of a streetlight but it's hard to tell how large it is or exactly how far away. It looked like a metallic truncated cone shape with glowing blue lines running down its sides from the narrow end to the wider end. The metallic surfaces of the object reflected moonlight and streetlights near the firehouse and trailer sales office. Light began to come from the wider end, initially shining down on the road slightly off to the right of the lane I was in. The light was spreading in a wide cone shape and was slightly bluish. Then it started to rotate. The light moved upward then around as it rotated. It shined at me and flashed five times in my direction as it rotated (not turning on and off). As it faced away I could see the 'top' or the side that the light wasn't shining from. The center where the cone shape was truncated looked dark and the lines of blue light looked like 'EL Wires' radiating from it. They seemed to come out of the dark opening and go into a metallic-looking flange surrounding the wider end that was shining the light. When it had flashed at me five times it shut off its light and disappeared into the trees to the right of the road with only the 'wires' lit. During the sighting I could see the planets Venus and Mars (I think) with the moon between them off to the left so I definitely wasn't seeing the planet. About the time it disappeared a floodlight at the yeshiva ahead on the same side of the road came into view briefly through the trees.

Notes:
At roughly 6:30 that evening I was informed by email that a lady named [censored] who I had known but hadn't spoken with in years had died. She had lived in the area where the object disappeared when it was the 'Western Mohegan Reservation'. At the present time it is a yeshiva with a sign that says 'Yeshiva of Ocean.' It was formerly the Tamarack Lodge.

I've seen a similar light several times in the same area over the course of at least five years. At least twice there was a light that seemed to be hovering over my car and shining down on it while moving along at the same speed but I couldn't see the object directly, just the light shining onto and into my car. Each time this lasted less than a minute. Once it shined into my car from behind at an angle, creating double images with the moonlight which was also shining in from a similar direction. I couldn't see it clearly, only the light. This sighting took place in Dairyland, close to the Sullivan county line on the same read. Once I saw it shining down onto another car roughly half a mile ahead (there are long lines of sight on the road). The driver reacted by pulling off the road in a panic and got out of the car on the side of the road. It was an older mostly bald man in a gold car similar to a Ford Taurus. I stopped briefly but he didn't seem inclined to talk about it.

I used to gorge on UFO shit when I was a kid.
Who knows that these things are.
Is Our Host going to do any more?

I used to gorge on Forteana, particle physics, ancient history, psychology, animal stories, science fiction, magick, shamanic lore, animation...

And one of my favorite quotes...

To call the gods spacemen is to literalize them, to read myth as history. If anything the spacemen are gods.

'If anything the spacemen are gods.'

Ever notice how, no matter where you go in the world, no matter what religion or myth or folklore, the creator/benefactor beings come from-- *points up*-- there?

Wow, this is cool.

Ya know ,with all the people with video phones, where are all the UFO sightings?

There are some videos out there. But as I said I tend to think this is more of a paranormal phenomenon than a 'solid' thing. That being so, I wonder what a dashcam would have seen if I had one. It may have seen nothing much or maybe something even weirder. In sightings very often different people see totally different things and cameras sometimes just see a blurry light or something like that.

I find it interesting that you prefer to think of UFOs as something immaterial instead of actual hardware. Doesn't it make more sense that they are machines of some kind?

I used to be very interested into UFOs back in the 1980s and early 90s and one of the things that drove me away from the topic was the trend of mixing UFO and paranormal (ghosts, cryptids, spirits) stuff. I always thought they were two separate topics that didn't belong together and mixing them substracted both seriousnesses.

Anyways, I'm glad you weren't abducted.

I don't know if I prefer to think of them that way. I think it would be easier to think of them as spaceships that came across space, or maybe through hyperspace, to do things that may not be understandable. It's an easier way of thinking of things. I'd maybe compare it to thinking of everything in the world as Newtonian rather than quantum weird. It's so much simpler to think of an electron as a discrete thing with a definite speed and location but if you send it through a diffraction grating it acts like it's not in only one place until it affects something at the other end. When people see things in the sky that look like either lights or solid 'craft' or whatever they may look solid but they can act very weird and like these other things that would usually be categorized as paranormal, though they sometimes leave traces behind.

In a way I came to this whole thing from the other side. I've had a kind of inside view of things most people could consider weird from the time I was very little. That includes past life memories from the time I was very small and 'furry' related things like a phantom tail. I first noticed UFOs during the Hudson Valley flap years ago. The book Night Siege is about that time. The only phenomenon I witnessed personally was the 'boom', which was basically a straight-up sonic boom of mysterious origin. But other things going on at the time were much weirder. When I started looking into what was going on with UFO phenomena it was very much the same thing and always has been. You can look way back to the 'Airship Hoax' around the turn of the 20th century, the green children of Woolpit, and other older or really ancient pre-aliens phenomena that resemble UFOs and see that it's the sort of thing that's always been around and has always been weird and disruptive in a way that doesn't seem consistent with creatures from another planet. Maybe it's consistent with creatures from the otherworld and they've always been around.

Assuming paranormal attributes to something that acts in unexplained ways is always the easier way, but not the most logical.

If a Viking saw a modern submarine in action he would not recognize it a sea vessel at all, he would think of it as something that violates all the rules of navigation as he understands them. From his point of view, going underwater is the total opposite of what a ship is supposed to do, it would be illogical and incomprehensible. He would find easier to assume he is seeing a work of magic or witchcraft than to wrap his mind around the fact he is seeing a more advanced version of the ships he knows and understand.

I think it's the same with UFOs. If they are vehicles from another planet, they would probably do things that make no sense for us, but that doesn't mean they are paranormal phenomena, just technology we have no way to recognize.

It's probably a drone. Much like the Roswell device was a survaillance drone launched by the US military. Look up Project Mogul. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Mogul

It also has about the right shape to be a resonant cavity thruster

That said, I do like the idea of a fairy desk lamp or a fairy that is a desk lamp
