What a cast of characters, right? This is a commission from a group of friends who fell in love with the WW2 era heist game Raid and wanted me to do this poster: https://gameplay.tips/uploads/posts/2017-09/1506619071_... with their Sonas. All of them are interested in history as and this commission was definitely enjoyable for me to do!
My technical spiel today will be regarding composition. When you've got a poster with multiple characters compositions suddenly becomes important! And luckily, that's one subject they like really to drill into your head in Art School. So with this poster, I first rendered each character separately - and then had to make them look good together. My main objective was that the focus would be on the characters' faces and not on someone's belt, for example. With that in mind, some adjustments I made: - Dakened the bottom of their trousers, so your eyes wouldn't go there - Put the British Collie's right hand in shadow since it was extremely bright and distracting - Added rim lights to the faces of the characters for more contrast - Reduced the contrast in the Raccoon's tail - Made the Russian's tail blend more with the background - Decreased the shininess of some of the guns - Put the red in the middle of the picture and let the smoking hand be the anchor of the whole image
A big thank you to the guys that commissioned this from me, it was definitely a pleasure and an honor doing this piece for you ^^!
