This is an original species that started as a simple doodle a year ago and has since evolved in to this.
This is only a hatchling, but the Imperavi already has the coloration it will keep for the rest of its life. Their coloration is that of the boa constrictor (and its various localities and morphs) and, usually, some sort of bird. Rarer varieties have mammalian coloration. This particular baby is a sunglow boa with a scarlet ibis.
They are endothermic and very intelligent, with a mental capacity comparable to the african grey. They are omnivorous, feasting on nuts and fruits. Their meat is obtained through clever group hunting in small family troupes, but unlike a lone wolf, a lone Imperavi is still incredibly dangerous. Though nonvenomous, Imperavi are immune to the effects of both neurotoxic and hemotoxic venom.
Imperavi grow large, and are both mounts and dog-like companions to my tribal snake race that has yet to be named. Before domestication Imperavi and the snakes were bitter enemies. They were the last remaining predators that would regularly attack and take tribe members and their children. During a time of civil unrest, where the snake species was at war with its own kind, they adopted the notion of if you can't beat them join them and began raising and training their wild enemies. Once things were again peaceful, the Imperavi remained as valued companions. Over generations of selective breeding their old hate was forgotten, and the domesticated Imperavi will defend their tribespeople against their wild cousins without pause.
