The Golden Firedrake hatchling meeped in fear at the much larger, adult Pyrespine pinned it to the ground, preventing it from darting away into the underbrush. A human male, wearing a metallic mask that looked like a dragon's horns, looked the hatchling with an appraising interest before crouching down and putting his hand on the gold's head.
There was an unidentifiable pressure on the hatchling's mind, causing it to squeal in fear. The pressure greatened almost to pain, before there was a sudden absence of pain. But the hatchling still felt odd. Like there was someone else in its mind.
"There we go," the man said softly, as if soothing the hatchling. The Pyrespine lifted its claw silently, glaring down at the gold with a contemptuous gaze. The gold flared its wings as if ready to escape, but something held it in place.
"It's just a hatchling," it rumbled. "What on Euthora do you want it for, Drake?"
"Helix, calm yourself," The man known as Drake replied smoothly as he picked up the hatchling. Helix snorted. "One can never have too many dragons in a place like this." He cradled the hatchling in his arms, and it would have been comfortable if the man's grip- while not tight- was like steel. "You, hatchling, shall be known as Volant. Learn it, and serve me with all the faithfulness that dragons are known to serve their masters."
Volant trilled in fear and acknowledgement.
Dear Cor I love this character.
He was a minor antagonist (as an adolescent/young adult) in the early arcs of Cult of Ustream, a roleplay I am/was in. He served the primary antagonist, a dracomancer named Drake Kuro. He, along with Helix and the third dragon, was freed when Kuro was killed by the cult. I plan to bring him back when we finally get around to continuing the roleplay.
"Volant" is an English word, not Drakine. He has no Drakine name because Kuro stole him from the nest before he learned his name(he still received one, just can't remember it). The word "volant" means "with wings spread for flight".
