Character Description
Slade the Jackal is the world's most skilled and ruthless mercenary, also known as Infinite, and current enemy of Sonic and Red Arrow.
Personality
A heavy flaw he did possess was that Slade could be too arrogant and overconfident regarding his own abilities. Having killed all of the men he fought, he believed Sonic would simply be an easy target. It was likely this hubris that was a factor of his defeat and he seemed to have learnt his lesson later on as he appears less arrogant but still rather boastful about his war stories which he told Sonic repeatedly. It was likely that these many past victories which caused his arrogance. As a result of being defeated several times by Sonic, Slade appears to have hypocritically forgotten his own code of not becoming personally involved in a job and becomes obsessive of finally killing Sonic, claiming he would not need payment and would "do it for free".

Background/History
In an early age, Slade killed his parents for unknown reasons and burned down their house, already showing his supreme intellect and cold blood. He lived of petty thefts for a while, until he tried to rob an old wolf who was a martial arts sensei, who saw Slade's aggressiveness and decided to train him, wanting to teach him how to use it well. After years of training, which showed how quick Slade was in learning every single martial art known, the sensei showed him an old treasure: a gem called Phantom Ruby, which allowed the owner to heal every wound and boost his physical attributes to an almost superhuman point. Slade became obsessed with it and researched it, discovering that it belonged to his family before the wolves, jealous of their strength and ensnared by it, took it for themselves. So Slade stole it and, wearing a jackal metal mask, he became, his quote, "A being of near infinite power", thus calling himself Infinite and killing his old master. He built a name for himself as a mercenary, until he arrived at Nanda Parbat, a secret city on the mountains and HQ of Ra's al Ghul's League of Shadows. He became his student and developed a not reciprocated crush towards the foster daughter of the Demon's Head, Taila, along with a fierce rivalry towards Sonic, who was training there at that time and was Talia's love interest. As Sonic tried to flee, Ra's sent Slade against him to stop him. The two fought to a stalemate, despite the jackal being helped by the Phantom Ruby, until Sonic defeated Slade and mistakenly bruised his right eye. Despite being able to regenerate it, Infinite decided to keep the scar, never wanting to forget why he hated the hedgehog so much, and later on ventured in the world as a mercenary again
