I KNOW I hate when full-sizing images and they turn out to be like 2000x5000 etc Then a small part of the overall image takes up the entire screen and I have to ctrl - to zoom out and see the whole thing.

Entirely depends on the image in question. Some artists include enough details in their works that justify the large file size, and those big images are generally much better suited for printing. On the other hand some people draw with 4x4 brushes only, have horibble aliasing, and could downscale their image to x0.25 and not lose any details, while making the image sharper, clearer, and reduce the filesize.
But other than that bigger is better. If something is too big make it smaller, it's just a couple clicks away. But if something is too small not even waifu2x can properly scale it up without a small loss in quality.

I understand that huge fire sizes take longer to load and might not work as well on smaller screens. But 4k screens (and larger!) are more common every day, so the detail actually is seen, often without even zooming in! Also, any decent art hosting site will let you see a big view tdat isn't absurd on small screens; IB's "wide" view being a great example.

Ya poofs, I don't care about seeing it clearly or wide or not. My internet and poor device ain't strong enough to load em quickly. Here I am, just lying down, waiting for a like almost a full 5 minute just to load a page with high res pics threads. And it took 5 minutes because one person decided to upload the 5000x5000 pixel version. Heck.
