I suppose in context of all the rest, the seeming contradiction of "conformism" and "new point of view" comes about as both basically signifying the state or quality of being not self-reliant in one's views but dependent on other people's thinking...or something.
So, uh...I guess you weren't too far off with your interpretation of "resting" with Gadget having her eyes closed there, which could also indicate a state of mental rest, acceptance, and passivity. Ya know, as someone believing that "above us's only sky" once, no, twice, no, *THRICE* put it...
