And with no help for kilometers, Simon being left in shock in this barren wasteland could be left in shock and die of exhaustion, unless... they pull a Bear Grylls but that would be nasty and I assume this isn't besonik's plan. Might be over thinking this whole situation, but by the looks of it, the death rate in these comics is pretty high with one character already dead in 1 of the 4 stories and now him not looking to good.
