"Don't scream, don't call for help, and don't try to run.  Tell me everything you know about the Chaos Emeralds.  Now.  And I'll let you walk away with your life."

-----

Anyone remember Sonic Chronicles?  You know, that Sonic RPG for the DS that was made by BioWare except not really?

It was a bit of a trainwreck, let's be honest here.  The graphics, gameplay, sounds, and music are all really bad, not to mention just how unpolished the whole thing feels.

But there is one thing about the game I can safely say that I enjoyed.  The story.

For one thing, the writing was solid.  Almost everyone was on point in characterisation, (Big is especially fun in this,) and it did a few things that the mainstream games don't really try.  A big one being Knuckles calling Sonic out for running off and leaving his friends all the time.  Plus, anything that has a dedicated side plot to Sonamy is always a plus in my book.

The other factor that really clicked with me is how it expanded on previous stories in the series.  Not only did we get an origin for Emerl, linking back to Sonic Battle of all games, but we also got a bit more into the history of Sonic Adventure.  Namely, who was this enemy that caused Pachacamac to try and take the Chaos Emeralds?

Going back to previous stories and adding to them is a rarity in this series, (the only other example I can think of is Shadow the Hedgehog,) and I wish we saw more of it.  Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with the current writing staff.  They made me actually like Sonic as a character.  But a bit of continuity never hurt anyone.

Too bad we'l never see a followup to this game after all the bullshit with Ken Penders.  It's a shame, since that cliffhanger at the game's ending really made it feel like Chronicles 2 would've been Sonic Forces about 10 years early.

As always, models are by KabalMystic.

I actually did play that game once. It was okay, not the best Sonic game, but by no means the worst. It's pity we couldn't get more of Shade. I really think she could have been a more fascinating character if we could have had more backstory and interactions with her. Thanks a lot, Penders, ya douche.

That aside, these are some great looking models. Poor Tikal. Just minding her own business and then she's pretty much held at knife point.

Strange how I never heard anyone talk about this back when pretty much every Sonic game that was made was considered just as bad as the last one according to the internet.

I know how you feel. Shade is one of my favorite Sonic chicks.

Funny enough, I'd actually see Shade and Tikal as friends before the events of the echidna war. More or less like a Sonic version of "The Fox and The Hound."
