I know about Saint Seiya, but not well enough so I'm not delighted by that attack when I watch it on Da Toob. So, Dragon Ball Super had (note past tense) an entire universe whose super-fighter team and God of Destruction was all about love, and so being Japanese they did the heart sign thing a lot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWynhkrQdLI And yes, they even do a highly-probable parody of Athena Exclamation: PRETTY BLACK HOLE! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8w67fxrmbsc

Saint Seiya is very popular here in Brazil. I think it's more famous here than Japan nowadays. Ah, I see it now!! It's very cute seing them making heart shapes like a superpower and, well, destroying everything with that! How funny, I really liked this. I'm going to check it out ;D

I didn't know you were from Brazil, but being a Texan on the Mexican border, I know from a lot of my Latino acquaintances that Saint Seiya has been popular all through Latin America since it first came out in the 80s. So now I understand both your point of reference and why it would be close to you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2dQ5J05uss

I, actually, was born in Japan. But have been living here since then. Yeaah, it's true about Saint Seiya being famous at Latin America. I believe it's the same with Cowboy Bebop in North America?
Oh, you are Texan! It looks like a nice place!

I suspect that Saint Seiya is more popular outside Japan because it deals with the European Zodiac and Greco-Roman mythology as opposed to the Sino-Asian ones. What do you think? Cowboy Bebop was a big hit in Japan, but other titles like Big O, the movie Redline, and things that tend to be blatantly Euro or American in flavor tend not to do well in Japan seems like, with One Piece being the huge exception. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a hit all over the world because it's so international and exotic, even though arcs like Diamond Is Unbreakable are filled with fun Sino-Asian ghost stories. Voice dubs of titles like Naruto and Bleach tend to blunt the near-total native environment of those anime, allowing us to ignore just how buried we are in Japanese culture when we watch them. The same goes for the Super Sentai shows. Dubbing the voices makes titles like Shinkenger or Ninninger, which are totes Japanese in their settings, not quite so alien. Texas is a huge state, eight hundred miles across. The only North American ecosystem our territory does not contain are high mountain forests. It's culture tends to be VERY conservative and xenophobic, but places like the state capitol of Austin and the larger cities can be okay for 'foreigners'.
