My first commission ever, dated November 2008. You know how it goes, the first salary, the first The Lion King commission.
Why so many color variations, you may ask? Well, I originally wanted a romantic suggestive scene with Simba and Nala in daylight setting and with usual Hyhlion's soft shading. Hyhlion thought I actually meant reinterpreting The Look scene from The Lion King with full replication of the movie's cell shading. I explained what I originally intended, but it was kinda my mistake to not mention all the details initially. Hyhlion made the scene brighter, while retaining the night color scheme, and upgraded shading to soft. The final version was a weird mix of both ideas. But PhotoShop to the resque! Both day and night versions should exist, I think.
So...
1. Day soft: Athari's idea. 2. Day cell: Athari's idea, but with cell shading. 3. Night dark soft: Hyhlion's idea, but with soft shading. 4. Night dark cell: Hyhlion's idea. 5. Night bright soft: official final version. 6. Night bright cell: official final version, but with cell shading.
It's never mentioned anywhere that Nala is Mufasa's daughter. In fact, the movie creators themselves said that another lion from outside the pride being Nala's farther is the easiest solution to the incest problem. There're also alternatives like... um... Scar. 😀
He is just mentioned, not even given a name. There is just a painting of him as a cub in The Lair of The Lion Guard. Bunga mistakes the painting for a picture of Kion and the plot of the episode ensues.
