Meets are both great and >terrible< places to meet new people. Some people go to make new friends, so if there's several of those, then groovy. Others go to meet existing online friends in person. If you end up at a meet where everyone knows each other, and none of them are looking to expand the social circle, it's a pretty sucky experience.

Yeah, it depends on the group of people. Personally I find each meet has its pros and cons in the UK. I'm happy as long as I can talk with a few people in a group which doesn't consist of the types of furries who are just awkward to be around. As long as people can so much as act like they're not devoid of any social skills then I'm alright :D Meets are fun though, not so much of a fan of the ones where it's just a bar, and that's it. Like a bit of variation ^^

I imagine meets in the uk to be a lot different than here in the states. Since everyone is so much closer together (comparatively), if you don't like the crowd at the nearest meet, most any meet is going to be within semi-reasonable distance. So you probably should have a lot more options to "shop around" as it were, till you find a group that more suits you.
Here, people are often pretty much stuck with whoever the nearest group is, and even a "really close" meet might mean a few hours of transit.
