A simple tutorial on how to construct Bugs Bunny's head. I think this is pretty much the official way to do it. If you look at the oldest cartoons his whole head was basically an egg shape. For example this on John K's blog.
His cheeks got bigger and cuter later on. That also gave him a more anthropomorphic look. Real rabbits have elongated heads with their eyes on the sides of the head more like the older Bugs. Later versions moved his eyes onto the front of his head.
The second file has more Bugs Bunny heads emphasizing the construction built around that egg-shaped head. I think the key to drawing him is to look at how others have and practice. It'll come out a little different and that's good but it's such a magic thing to draw Bugs so he looks like Bugs. He's a changeable character and very expressive so he can look a little different every time. Drawing him expressionless looks totally weird. Still there's that magic something that makes him Bugs Bunny.
Thanks! I have to do another more in-depth tutorial on Bugs' head, and on toon heads and rotations in general. It takes some good construction and lots of practice to get it right.
