Now I couldn't very well have a countdown like this without including the likes of the Pirate Captain, I mean the movie is called Band of Misfits! I know it may seem a bit off, including the captain of anything into a countdown about more-or-less sidekicks, but just because you're the captain of a bunch of flunkies doesn't exclude you from being a punching bag in the eyes of the cosmos! I remember seeing like... one add for this several years ago and I wasn't sure if it was even a film or just another short from Aardman Animation, but that was it. I never saw anything about it again and never knew it existed until many years later, a friend of mine quoted the movie. When he explained that it was "a stop motion movie about pirates made by Wallace & Gromit" I immediately asked "Oh shit! That actually got made?" soon after he showed it to me and it quickly became one of my favorite films, but I believe that there really is no more perfect way for this film to become known to anyone!
While part of me is sad that this film doesn't get the attention I feel it deserves, another part of me is fine with that because the movie is just as no-name as the characters it stars. Maybe I am biased due to my overall love of pirate stories, but at the same time that love didn't save my interest in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, so probably not. At it's heart, this film carries all the same charm and witty humor which Aardman is so well known for and the same can be said for the Pirate Captain himself! I feel he's one of the best examples of how to play the swaggering stooge character. It's very easy to make that arch type annoying, but in this case he was just a delight to see in every scene and again, I just had to add this two-bit underdog swashbuckler in. If you've not seen Pirates, Band of Misfits, I definitely suggest looking into it.
