Their separate titles reference two Japanese physicists, Makoto Kobayashi and Toshihide Maskawa, who predicted the bottom and top quarks in 1973, as a result receiving the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2008. Since Mistmane is the pillar of beauty (a name proposed for the bottom quark) and Masukawa is the older of the pair, she got the respective appellations.
