I can’t believe they wouldn’t even pay for a carriage.
At least I don’t have to carry everything by myself, the advantages of owning a slave… Unfortunately however she is another person, which comes with the disadvantage of having to take more for the trip. So I still have to carry some stuff… less than I would have had to alone.
...A carriage still would have been better.
At least here, nowhere's too far away… it’s quite the small world. A few days walk at most, from here to the Banner nation.
A few days on the road, which means possibly a few nights sleeping in a tent.
Which is great, as I hate camping.
“My owner?”
“Have you finished packing?... My possession?”
Another advantage to owning a slave, as I hate packing.
“Yes my owner.”
“Thank you, my possession.” Just because you own someone, doesn’t mean you shouldn't be polite.
“My owner, your escort is here.”
Oh right… I almost forgot about that. Great, not only do I get to enjoy the joys of camping. I get to enjoy the joys of camping with a complete stranger…
“I guess we better go introduce ourselves, my possession.”
“He is waiting for you in the courtyard, my owner.”
I really hope that they aren’t a canid.
“Lead the way, my possession.”
She goes, and I follow. Out of my little apartment, saying goodbye to my comfortable bed… I guess this is something I have to do, if I want to keep it… though, what after this?…
There’s no pointing thinking on that now. She’s waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs, holding open the door which leads outside into the courtyard.
The courtyard itself is shared with the other inhabitants of the building. Just a small outside place, to sit. Big enough to park the carriage that I wish was picking us up…. Instead an avian stands in its place.
He’s wearing armour, but doesn’t appear to be wearing any uniform that I recognise. He especially isn’t wearing the colours of the university, as I was expecting.
...So not only did they not pay for a carriage… they didn’t even want to send one of their own guards to escort me…
“Baefen, my owner,” she points towards him. “He will be escorting you during your trip.”
He removes his helmet, a polite gesture even if pointless… as his face guard… beak guard? Remains attached. Concealing his face
“You’re the Scholar I’m suppose ta keep an eye on?”
“Yes.”
“Really?”
“...Yes.”
“You?”
“Yes, me… is that a problem?”
“Nah, nah. Just you know not quite what I was expecting.”
“...What were you expecting?”
“Some decrepit old guy. All beardy and wise, yer know. Not a cute little thing like yourself.” Ugh, please don’t. “Are you sure you’re a scholar.”
“Quite.”
“Damn, seems quite the shame keeping someone as pretty as yourself behind piles of old books. Hidden away in some dark room, or whatever it is you scholar types do.”
...Well this is going to be great. Should probably thank him for the compliment, out of politeness… I guess. Though I’d rather not encourage him...but I don’t want to seem rude, I do have to spend quite some time with him… ugh.
Change the subject?
“You uh,” uuuh, “you don’t work for the university?”
“Nope. That I don’t.”
“I was expecting someone who did.”
“Guess we both expected someone different. Hopefully as much as a pleasant surprise for you, as for me.”
Ugh.
“We should get going.”
“As you wish,” he motions towards the exit, “after you.”
Of course after me, an excuse to perve on me from behind… ugh.
