Sorry to hear bout the flood. I've had similar problems with my old washing machine.There's an air hose that leads from the tub to a pressure switch that can get clogged with gunk, you can usually take that out and clear it with a straightened wire coat hanger.
Mine is thankfully on a concrete floor next to a drain, but if you want even more insurance, they make pans you can sit the washer on and a sensor that sits inside that will shut off the water if it detects a leak
