Here Leo is thinking deep after being banished to the basement by his neglectful mother. He's wondering whether to stick around and hope that his situation will improve but deep down inside he knows it probably won't. Escaping and reporting the matter is an option but the mere though of being placed in an orphanage worries him. While things did get better for him eventually, it wasn't easy.
