The Graveyard Shift
#11: Guzma: Pokemon Sun/Moon

Yeah, I guess it was pretty inevitable if I wanted to keep up with the times that Team Skull would have to enter soon, given the overwhelming surge of their popularity. Really I should have added them in last year when I did only Pokemon as they were the applicable team villains of that year’s game but I focused on the OG’s that are Team Rocket, but in that breath sort of represented all Pokemon teams throughout. So why then did I give ‘ya boi’ Guzma a shout out? Because why not? Well that or I just really needed to fill the roster of mincing little putz villain further, I dunno.

Honestly, I was not the biggest Team Skull fan when they first appeared. I know! Me? Not into something skull related? Shocking! I blame it on how each team to pop up in Pokemon games has gotten more and more weak and I just didn’t care for another one, but past that I really grew to love them mainly as I feel they finally went back to basics and made the team just a bunch of plucky, cliche villains that knew they were exactly that and didn’t hide it. As the games have gone on, each team has gotten more and more insipid and they try to take them so seriously, but then in comes Guzma and his gang and just say “Yeah, we’re a bunch of B-class villains. Deal with it!” it honestly made me even more sad that Jessie, James and Meowth aren’t used in the games as it would be perfect to see them as Team Skull grunts, but I also think those three should keep appearing as members of whatever current team is in game because they’re hilarious and we all know it!

It may have been jumping on the band wagon a bit tossing in ole’ Guzma into the mix but I do legitimately like him and his teams antics; it’s funny that after so long they hadn’t made a team that were legit street thugs arch types until now! (and yet not a single one uses a Scrafty which is literally designed to look like that… but I digress) and even from the get go I loved his design, again I’m not the biggest Team Skull fan, I enjoy them but I’m not crazy for them but I do really like Guzma in general. His whole vibe I enjoy and I wish we got to see more of him, honestly I kept hoping that there would be a moment where he and Team Skull switched sides and helped you to take down the Aether Company in Sun/Moon but again, I digress.

Not going to place him much higher then this though as, like I said earlier, he and his team are full out B-class villains at best and unlike other teams in Pokemon games that take center stage as the villains of that respective title, these guys took a backseat to the actual villains in the end which is just sad. They weren’t even good enough to be the main villains. Get good, guys. Git gud

Really? Because I think the Truly Evil Jigglebutt Gang may be more akin to that! https://inkbunny.net/s/1450847 however I can see that similarities here!
