Koll-yoh Demo And Character Profiles

How do you like them apples. I've already built a working demo.

CAR is a huge project I'm working on which combines Farming, Crafting, Monster Battles and RPG elements in a Text Adventure with visuals.

No, the area in the picture is not how the rooms will look in the final version. That's a placeholder until backgrounds can be designed fully. There will be lots of objects on screen in the final version and not just bare floor and also the floor will use various tile textures instead of just the one.

Character pictured is the main character, yes. And they are an Orc for those that were confused, especially by the name, Jack Grass.

For those asking, no the screen doesn't scroll, at least not fully. It works like old school Legend of Zelda.

The 9 instructions are:

"travel"/"go" as in
"travel to place"/"go to place"

"examine" as in
"examine person, object or place"

"talk"/("ask"/"tell") as in
"talk to person about topic"/"ask person about topic"/"tell person about topic" or
"talk to person about performing action"/"ask person to perform action"/"tell person to perform action"

"use" as in
"use object" or
"use object on object"

"consume"/("eat"/"drink") as in
"consume food or drink"/"eat food"/"drink drink"

"attack" as in
"attack person or creature"

"grab"/"take"/"pick up" as in
"grab object"/"take object"/"pick up object"

"place"/"put" as in
"place object at, in or on place"/"put object at, in or on place"

"perform"/"do" as in
"perform action"/"do action"

"Back" and "Continue" allow you to scroll through the text in the output box (the thing that says "Line 1, Line 2, Line 3") and on reaching the bottom "Continue" will read the instruction you put in the input box (the things that says "Input").

Don't worry about accidentally missing the end of the text because it will have a bar stretching across the text box saying "Input Now" or words to that effect at the bottom. This bar only appears once at the bottom of the text. When you send an instruction it removes it before adding the output and then adds it back to the bottom, so there aren't going to be multiple copies of it once for each turn.

The floor is 20x20 tiles at 20x15 size (4x3 aspect ratio). Each tile is 1 meter (3 feet, 3 1/3 inches) in width and 1 meter in length. Elevation is at 45 degrees. Character sprite just so happens to be accurate human height at 173 centimeters AKA (5 feet 8 inches). 1 pixel left to right is 5 centimeters (almost 2 inches), top to bottom is 6 2/3 centimeters (around 2 1/2 inches). However since it's 20x15 then basically you can just work it out for the horizontal measurements and multiply it by 3/4 to get the vertical.

EDIT (2017/10/11 1:44PM):
Added a 200% and 500% zoom screen. zooming is manual and controlled by typing "zoom in" and "zoom out"

EDIT (2017/10/11 2:41PM):
okay 200% scale is now the norm. However this means certain albion games wont be in here. I will most likely make them as separate projects but not for a while since this game has precedence.

EDIT (2017/10/11 3:49PM):
changed to an indoors location to show how the walls work.

EDIT (2017/10/11 7:53PM):
toned down the background and added Gylon.

EDIT (2017/10/11 9:34PM):
added interior walls to the house.

EDIT (2017/10/11 10:03PM):
added interior doors to the house.

EDIT (2017/10/13 03:42PM):
added a second screen showing the adapted Death Maze game. Most levels are much bigger than 1 room but i didn't want to post too many pictures of the same thing.

That's a very bare bones HUD
JohnSamer98

it has to be.

to fit the 400 pixel requirements for FIAR given the size of each room.

why can't you just play the whole game in 200% zoom?

it looks way better.
JohnSamer98

because for the shooting elements you're gonna need to see further
NomyNoms
6 years, 6 months ago
ah. mine doesn't have that.

you don't really need to see that far though.

works just as good up close.

you really need around 10 meters distance ahead for the different play styles to really show their unique flavor and since sound works by visual representation you still need a small area around your character to see backwards. technically i could make the board 3/4 of the width and 3/4 of the length but you'd only have the advantage of projectiles if you and the enemy were right up against opposite edges of the room.

your idea is better for this game in particular. i guess mixing text adventures with other genres has its difficulties.

well it's the same kind of freedom rpg where you buy furniture and appliances for your house

it's looking more like a real house with the doors and walls in
JohnSamer98

still gotta decorate the rooms and add the objects to them
NomyNoms

do the different rooms do different stuff?
JohnSamer98
6 years, 6 months ago
yes. the two smaller rooms are a bedroom and bathroom. the two larger rooms are a lounge and a kitchen.

i don't see how you could fit a tv and a couch in there. also shouldn't their be a study and a workshop?
JohnSamer98
6 years, 6 months ago
there'll be a computer desk at the back of the hall and the workshop is in another building.

i really want to play this game and it would be super easy to make this in browser
JohnSamer98
5 years, 11 months ago
i don't think there's any option other than in browser for this at the moment but this is definitely quite high on my to-do list.

i never got to play Combo Nations before it became incompatible.
i really wanna play it. everyone says it was good.
JohnSamer98
5 years, 11 months ago
well that was my intention with this game.
sort of like a compilation game similar to how the lego franchise crossover games work.
you could play any of the combos games at any time.
i decided to make it that way because i feel that certain games that people would like have gotten overlooked by the fact the other was so hyped.
certainly the original combos game would have been pretty fun to play if anybody had even given it the time of day.
2 and 4 are the ones i least look forward to making in browser.
they were definitely action focused and that's going to be difficult to implement accurately in a browser.

C3CN will most likely be the first of them made because the sprites i have right now are easy to re-purpose.
but i also wanted to make something new so that's why it has all the way up to 10 in it.
several new combos titles that each have their own style and charm.

it wont be easy to make this game in its entirety but in browser it will be a lot easier than it was going to be.
but i really should show you the stuff i've been working on so far.
the visual elements are in place but the mechanics will take time.
thanks to some fancy new tiling gear though it wont take as long as it was originally stated.

i just feel that now you have albion you're gonna forget about all your other things.

you shouldn't promise more than you can deliver.
JohnSamer98
5 years, 11 months ago
that's definitely not the case.

i will be sharing my work load across multiple games at any 1 point just to keep myself sane.
and in that respect there's about 5 games that will get all my attention.
this is one of them.
DeerGoat

if you say so.
even though that's not saying much.
