Sans meet baby Papyrus.
You can see it just like young Sans meeting his new brother who just born.
In my vision, it's Sans who discovered his freshly newborn son, Papyrus.

Sans, a smart young skeleton, meet a hothead teenager fish monster a little younger in a party.
They do it for the first time... Aaaaaaand Undyne is pregnant.
Monsters being very few, Undyne must keep the baby.
She obliged, but she refused to raised the baby.
Sans take the responsability when the baby was born.
It was love at first sight.
Sans raised Papyrus, but being himself rather young, he have troubles to manage his lessons, his work, and a baby.
His boss, Dr. W.D.Gaster, accepted to take them under his wing.
Officially, Sans and Papyrus are his sons, by adoption.
But in reality Gaster is the caretaker of the other two skeletons. Giving to Sans and Papyrus a roof on their head, feed them and dress them, without Sans having to worried about it.
The only counterpart is to Sans to be part of Gaster experiments.
