"Come on Tails, we gotta save this lady! She's been locked up for 11 years!"

Tails smiles and nods as he flies behind Sonic, eventually catching up to him.

"Sonic, who is this lady and why has she been locked up for a long time?"

"Not sure, little buddy... all I know is that she's a hedgehog too."

Once Sonic and Tails arrive at Robotnik's fortress, they both sneak in from the rear and attempt to make their way to the dungeon. Sonic looks around and soon whispers to Tails.

"Bit a problemo, little buddy...I can't remember where the dungeon is in this joint!"

Tails ponders with Sonic and soon gasps as he hears laughing nearby. He points to the doorway as Scratch and Grounder appears.

"Sonic, it's Scratch and Grounder!"

Sonic smirks a bit as he peeks around the corner, noticing Scratch and Grounder heading towards a nearby building.

"Perfect, maybe they'll give us a hint to where the dungeon is!"

Scratch laughs evilly as he twirls a key around in his hand.

"Mu ha ha ha! This is it, Grounder! Remember that hedgehog we captured?"

Grounder rubs the back of his head with his hand and makes a confused expression.

"Uhh... no?"

"Doh Grounder, you moron! We captured her this morning!"

Grounder puts his hands on his waist before frowning at Scratch.

"I knew that!"

"No, you didn't, now shut up! We need to check on the dungeoner!"

Grounder grumbles and follows Scratch to the dungeon. Sonic sneaks behind them and soon smirks as he crosses his arms.

"Hey dumb-bots, you wanna hand those keys over to me?"

Scratch turns around and groans as he attaches the dungeon cell key to his belt.

"Dream on, hedgehog! Grounder, drop the anvil!"

Grounder makes a confused expression and looks up into the air at the huge anvil hovering above them on a rope.

"Uhh... how do I drop it, Scratch?"

"Press the button!"

"What button?"

As Scratch groans, Sonic smirks and runs behind Grounder before grabbing the controller from him.

"On the controller, idiot!"

"Ohh okay... uhh, where is it?"

"Over here, Flounder~!"

Grounder turns around and makes an angry expression.

"That's GROUNDER, hedgehog and give that back!"

"Nah... I think this will come in handy!"

Scratch and Grounder both yell as Sonic presses the button, which causes the anvil to fall on top of them. Sonic runs over and grabs the key before grabbing Tails' hand.

"See ya, dumb-bots! Come on bro, let's go and save the babe!"

--------------------

A few minutes later, Sonic puts Tails down before using the key to unlock the cell's door. He opens the door and steps back as the figure emerges, covering her eyes a bit from the bright light in the dungeon's hallway.

"W-Who's there?"

"You're safe now, m'am! The name's--"

"S-Sonic? Is that you?"

The blue blur smirks and rubs his nose as his eyes were closed.

"Yep, that's me! Hero of Mobius! Who might you be, m'am?"

The young woman climbs out of the cell and runs over to Sonic, giving him a hug.

"I thought I'd never see you again, sweetheart! I... I'm your mother."

Sonic pulls away from the hug and steps back, stumbling a bit over a rock behind him, a shocked expression upon his face.

"M-Mom? But I... I thought I was an orphan..."

The young female smiles as she lowers her hood. She had pale blue fur, pale skin and three bangs of blonde hair. She smiles and walks towards Sonic before gently holding his hand.

"No, sweetheart... it is a long story."

---------------------

A young female mobian struggles as one of Dr Robotnik's robots restrain her. She looks over to her baby, who was now being held by Dr Robotnik and reaches out, attempting to take him back.

"No, please! Let us go!"

"Silence, female!"

Dr Robotnik laughs evilly as his robot heads back to the fortress with the female mobian in its hands. The young female shouts out to her child after he begins to cry loudly.

"No, my baby, please! Leave him alone!"

Dr Robotnik smirks as he looks over to the robot before looking down in his arms. In his arms laid a small blue-furred hedgehoglet, named Sonic. He was crying out for his mother and pounding his tiny fists.

"Good work, Spike! Take her to the dungeon and let her rot!! I'll deal with this little brat..."

The female mobian continues to shout out as she is dragged away by the robot and the little hedgehoglet screams out for her.

"Shut up, you little brat!! Hmm... I suppose I could always drop you off here, since your mother will be locked away for a long time! Muhahahaha!"

Sonic continues to cry and Dr Robotnik groans, frustratedly, before walking over to a nearby house and putting Sonic down on the doorstep.

"Your mother has been a thorn in my side for too long, hedgehog... now I'll be rid of you too at this orphanage! Muhahaha!"

Sonic continues to cry and lowers his ears as Dr Robotnik soon knocks at the door and laughs evilly before climbing into his Hovercraft and flying off into the distance.

A few seconds later, a female human, named Miss Saccharine, opens the door and looks around, curiously. She was quite a big woman with brown-coloured hair and wore a dark green dress.

"Whoever could be calling at this hour?"

Miss Saccharine was about to go back into her orphanage but soon hears a small crying sound. She gasps and kneels down as she notices little Sonic wrapped in a blanket and crying out for his mother.

"Oh my, you poor little thing! Where is your mother, little one?"

The little blue blur snuffles and wriggles around a bit, starting to feel uncomfortable. Miss Saccharine smiles a bit and gently picks up the infant before gently rocking him to and fro.

"Don't worry, little hedgehog... I'll help you find your mama, but until then, I'll take care of you."

Sonic lets out a little sneeze and soon yawns before rubbing his eyes. Miss Saccharine giggles a bit and walks over to a nursery room within the orphanage. She then lays Sonic onto a changing mat and checks his diaper before laying him into one of the cots in the room.

The little hedgehoglet soon closes his eyes and drifts off to sleep as Miss Saccharine smiles and switches off the light.

"Good night, little hedgehog."

-------------------

"And that's how it happened..."

Sonic, who was walking beside Tails and the young female, turns to her and folds his arms over his chest.

"I was... left at the orphanage... by Buttnik?"

"Yes. It all happened 11 years ago... and I've been in Robotnik's dungeon ever since..."

Tails makes a confused expression as he looks down at the young female, shrugging a bit.

"But, how come we never heard of you before?"

"When Robotnik found out that I was Sonic's mother, he kept my identity a secret, knowing that he would come and rescue me if he knew."

Sonic clenches his fists and grits his teeth.

"Why, that dirty, rotten, no good--!"

The young female lowers her ears as she takes Sonic's hands into her own.

"Calm down, sweetie. I'm alright... Robotnik has been feeding me and letting me outside."

Sonic lowers his ears also and hugs the young female.

"Sorry mom, but I can't forgive him for what he did... Buttnik's gonna pay!"

The young female smiles a bit as she hugs back before using her hands to lift his muzzle, looking into his eyes.

"So much spunk... just like your father. I'm so proud of you, sweetheart..."

The blue blur smiles a bit and soon feels a few tears come from his eyes. He closes them and sniffs as he nuzzles his head into the young female's chest.

"I can't believe... that after all this time, I had a mom. I can't forgive myself for not coming to rescue you..."

The young female kisses the blue blur's forehead before looking down at him, noticing his tear-filled eyes.

"Shh... it wasn't your fault. You didn't know..."

Sonic sniffles again and looks up at Tails, who was making a curious expression.

"Are you really Sonic's mom? No offense but where's the proof?"

The young female smiles and pulls away as she lifts up one of her quills and points to a small ring-shaped mark.

"This is a birthmark that me and Sonic share... Sonic has one under his second quill, the same location as mine."

Tails curiously lifts Sonic's quills and notices a small ring-shaped mark. He then leads Sonic over to a nearby mirror and shows it to him.

"Whoa, you're right! Look, Sonic!"

Sonic looks at it curiously before taking his quill into his hand.

"I never knew I had that..."

The young female smiles as she shows her birthmark to Sonic also.

"It's quite a special mark. Only mothers and their babies tend to share it..."

"That's cool!"

"Yeah..."

The young female brings Sonic into another hug before looking down at him, into his eyes.

"Maurice, my little angel... you're so big now. I've heard of all of the things that you have done for Mobius. I couldn't be more proud..."

Sonic smiles a bit but soon blushes from the name.

"M-mom! My name is Sonic, not Maurice!"

The young female giggles as she kisses his forehead.

"Maurice is your middle name, sweetie."

Tails giggles a bit from the name and Sonic blushes more.

"I-it is?"

"Yes, I gave it to you when you were born. You were named after your great grandfather."

"Wow... I never knew I even had a middle name!"

The young female giggles before looking over to Tails.

"Who's your friend, sweetheart? He seems like a nice boy..."

Tails blushes a bit from the comment and Sonic chuckles.

"He's Tails, my best buddy! I met him when he was a baby and he's been my fighting partner ever since..."

The young female smiles as she kisses Sonic's forehead.

"I'm so proud of you, son. You're a hero and you've been raising Tails for so long..."

Sonic blushes a bit from the comment and ruffles Tails' hair.

"Well, a hero's gotta do what a hero's gotta do... he's my little brother now."

Tails giggles and the young female smiles at the display.

"You remind me so much of your father. He was a hero just like you..."

"M-my dad?"

The young female smiles as she takes out a photograph.

"Yes. I keep a picture of him..."

She shows the photograph to Sonic and he looks at it closely.

"Whoa... he looks just like me."

The young female smiles and wraps an arm around him as he looks at the photograph.

"Yes, I see some much of him inside you, sweetie..."

Sonic smiles and hugs the young female. The young female smiles and hugs him back, gently rubbing his back.

"I promise I'll make you proud, mom."

"You already have, sweetie..."
