I had just finished watching on TV a remake of "The House on Haunted Hill" (not the Vincent Price oldie) and, trusting to my then knack of navigating in the dark, went downstairs to get a snack. As I entered the kitchen, something seemed to loom in front of me & reach for me. Startled,I hurriedly turned the light on.
It was a potted avocado plant ! Mother was rearranging the living room the day before and had put this plant on the kitchen table !
