The life of a guardian of the floating Angel Island was never meant to be an easy one.

For Knuckles the Echidna, most of his time watching over his island consisted of making friends and allies with it's current inhabitants, and warding off the occasional unexpected visitors.  But all that changed when he began hunting for the mysterious Archemedes.  After piecing together secrets of his ancestral history, and facing a number of mental and physical trials, he found the man behind the curtain: A wise and clever fire ant.

However, their initial meeting was suddenly cut short with the appearance of a most unexpected threat.  In the form of Knuckles' ancient ancestor Dimitri.  Fueled with an immense amount of Chaos energy from the sins of his past, and reborn as the demigod 'Enerjak'.  The all powerful foe quickly began his sinister agenda of stranding the guardian and fire ant to the barren Sandopolis Zone, brainwashing his closest allies 'The Chaotix', and building a new conquest over the once peaceful Angel Island.

This would prove to be only the first of several intense battles Knuckles would face as guardian.  For he would also learn what would probably be the harshest lesson of his lineage.  The greatest threats he would ever encounter, would be from his own family....
