Okay, well if you look at your drawing, you already have all the basics down.  The head is a circle, the body is a box shape, etc.  The only difference between this and higher quality art is just adding more shapes to it.

I don't think you'd have that hard a time drawing if you just had a little help with the basics.  It's mostly seeing things in shapes and practicing

like i said i become too focused on proportion and symmetry and that's what's really screwing me up. i don't know why that's the first thing i focus on, i try not to, but i do almost every time.

It's natural.  It's a pain in the ass for me as well, and always will be.  I find that the faster I draw, the less I have a chance to think about it

Not bad. I have the same problem when I try to draw bodies that I get mostly problems to get the right proportions together and I suck at hands.
